Which would you get and why? Or something else entirely? My current smartphone is dying or at least seems to be and my contract is about up so I've been thinking of getting something new but I cannot decide what exactly. Thought I'd put the question to our members...
I'm a long time blackberry fanatic but will be making the switch to the new iPhone next month.
Now that it supports 3g speeds, has GPS, handles ms exchange server and push e-mail; there's no longer a benefit to the Blackberry. Even advanced IT policies and remote wipe are now supported by the iPhone.
As far as the browser goes, the iPhone is superior to any BB I've used. The fact that it's a full entertainment device in addition to the smart phone is probably the reason it supersedes the blackberry. Blackberry has a media player, sure... but it's not intuitive, fun, and it is kind of slow. The only reason I'd stick to the BB is because I'm a fan of conventional keyboards, but honestly I prefer the small (pearl) bb keyboards because it retains comfortable phone use; the full keyboard ones are too wide.
Well I looked at the iPhone again. It seems that the 1/2 price deal is an illusion when you consider the increased contract fees from AT&T. I was still a little interested but AT&T still does not serve my area and has a drastic warning about using the phone in my area "Excessive use of Partner coverage may subject your service to early termination, in accordance with your service terms." They don't want me so I don't want them (but I do...)
I'll stick with the Blackberry a bit longer it seems.

Santa Fe if I were you, I'd sign up. If they end your plan early, you get a contract free iPhone 3g. That's like gold on the ebay market. Or at that point you could unlock and go over to T-Mobile. Even the cheapest of the AT&T voice plans (400min @ 39.99) is free for roaming so it's not like you will be charged extra.
You're right though unlimited data service will go up $10/month for the new 3g iPhone, from $20 to $30. So the cheapest plan will be $39.99 for voice (400 min) and $30.00 for unlimited data = $69.99.
That deters me... but thinking about the insane amount of bandwidth us iPhone users will be taking from AT&T makes me feel better.
. . . Unless you do a lot of texting/typing (I don't) and prefer the Blackberry style keyboard to the Apple.
Now when I travel, instead of carrying my usual cell phone, PDA, iPod Nano, Laptop, and Kensington universal charger (and lately a portable Nav as well), most of the time I should be able to get by with just the new iPhone.
Plus, I think you're going to start seeing a ton of cool apps for the phone over the next year.

I'm a bit disappointed that the new iPhone is still lacking the following:
A 32GB model
A better camera
More RAM
MMS
A2DP Bluetooth for stereo streaming
A camera on the front for videoconferencing
Video capabilities
Turn-by-turn navigation (will come with a 3rd party app, I'm sure)
The ability to copy and paste
I mean, come on, this is a 2nd gen phone now, upgrading the radio alone really wasn't that big of a deal....
