Beijing Olympics 2008

So here I am, arrived last Monday to Beijing! It's not my first time here as I've been numerous times but this time its the host of the 2008 Olympic! I'll be posting some pictures of around the city and when the Olympics rolls around in August.

Its been raining everyday for the last week and forecast shows rain all next week too! Had the car washed a few days ago, $1.50 for a hand wash using a powerspray and some scrubbing.

Heres a mall thats a mix of indoor with an outdoor area for performances and what not. The canopy is a large LED display similar to the Freemont Street Experience in Las Vegas

A portion inside the mall, its pretty much all marble flooring from the floors, walls, pillars and bathroom sinks. This is only a mid-ranged priced mall with mostly local brands and some foreign brands.

The suburbs is where a lot foreigners live, there are a lot of international schools out here and especially less traffic. About a 15-20min drive (no traffic) on the highway out to the suburbs.

Heres a villa under construction out in the suburbs not far from where I live. There are two entrances exactly like this, but the other one isn't completed yet.

Another area in the suburbs with restaurants surrounding this man-made lake.

Another restaurant/pond setting, this one was newly built and sits next to another villa (3rd picture).

Some pictures of the backyard of the villas. The villa's are gated/walled communities with 24/7 guard houses and patrols.

Bread and circuses

Gonna boycott this one, like I have every olympics since the early 80's. If you want to know why, either PM me, or Google "Dr. Tom Waddell".

At least I'll have a reason to leave the TV off, besides taking care of the car.

the most common Porsche are Cayenne's which are a dime a dozen, the Boxster, Cayman, and Carrera are pretty rare.

TechArt of Beijing. They only had a TechArt'd Cayenne in there, last year they had a Cayman.

Some TT's going at it at the track. This track has a bunch of dealerships and some tuner shops built around it, Audi recently acquired the name or something but they run alot of test drives on there and once in awhile there are various motorsports held here.

haha, well I had this strawberry banana smoothie at this place called O'Brien's. Its a sandwich/smoothie shop in the suburbs that caters towards foreigners, business is pretty slow for some of these places so theres hardly anyone in there. Well, later that night I had explosive diarrhea and lasted for the next 4-5 days haha.

Well, when in China, I typically only drink beer or bottled water (both of which I ask to either open myself or right in front of me) or Scotch/brandy/wine. No dairy products, no tap water. So far (knock on wood!) I've avoided the explosive effects of NOT paying attentiion to what you're eating or drinking. I can see a run on Kaopectate in Beijing this summer!

I have been in the stadium during construction. It's going to be a remarkable facility. I was there on a day when they were burying something secret in the field area - apparently a secret thing for the opening ceremonies. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone.

the large carpets and rugs inside the national stadium are produced by this manufacturer located outside of Beijing, the same manufacturer who was willing to make the engine cover carpet for us. They've been good to work with so far, they say no order too small, 1 piece of 10,000 pieces they will do. I checked out their factory last week and they recently finished redoing some of the carpeting for the stadium because of some leaks ruining the carpet.

nope, no locusts
