Escort Passport SRX and SR7 Questions

Can one of our radar gurus tell me the differences between the SRX and SR7 Passport systems from Escort?

My understanding when I was shopping for one was that one is sold for new cars/dealerships (SRX) and the other for used cars (SR7). Don't ask me why but that is what I was told.

Other than that, I don't believe there is a difference other than the name.

I heard from another source that the SR7 detects lidar but doesn't jam it, for people in states that don't allow lidar jamming, vs. the SRX which has all the jammers.

I have an SR7 and it has two front jammers, plus one rear one.

Also, in reference to Ken's comment above, it jams also.

(Actually, I have the SR7 PLUS, which includes the jammers. The base SR7 does NOT jam)

Perhaps I can help clarify. Several years ago there were 4 custom installed products. They were:

ZR3 - Laser Detector / Shifter
SR7 - Radar Detector / Laser Detector (no shifting)
SRX - Radar Detector + Laser Detector & Shifter (Dealer Installed)

Back then, the SRX was only available at new car dealers at time of vehicle purchase. It was such a desirable product that people begged Escort to sell it to people that had already purchased their cars. So they created the SR7+, which was:

SR7+ - Radar Detector + Laser Detector & Shifter (Retail Market)

The SR7+ and SRX were very similar. There were minor differences including a different colored face on the control head and a different warranty. Eventually they discontinued the SR7+ and allowed the SRX to serve both markets.

So, today the SRX is the custom installed full featured system. The SR7 which does NOT shift lidar and is less expensive is still available because in some states the shifting of lidar is prohibited. In those states you can install an SRX and turn the shifting off in the programming.

Escort has just releases a new custom installed system, the 9500ci. It incorporates the new GPS TruLock technology and it gets two new radar antennas that make it up to 10 times more sensitive on K and Ka bands. This sensitivity will smoke EVERY detector on the market. It's always been possible, but having that kind of sensitivity without TruLock would prove to be very painful.

I am a long time SRX user. All of these products are fantastic, but it's important to understand the differences. I actually have a 9500ci on order and I will test it in full here for your viewing pleasure when it becomes available (currently on global back order).
