Car Mags...obsession or collection?

Here's a great thread over at Miata.net on what many of us probably did not realize was a common but benign affliction: keeping old car mags.

Who saves Car Magazines?

Enjoy!!

You know, it's funny you started this thread because it was about 2 weeks ago my wife was asking me if I really needed to keep all the magazines I have; namely the car magazines. Between Excellence, Panorama, Christophorus, my local PCA chapters magazine and a couple others, I'm beginning to take up a lot of space. So I sat back and realized that my home office is getting plenyy cluttered with magazines and as much as it hurt to admit it, my wife was right .

Needless to say, I'm spending my weekends only saving the ones that have really interesting articles or something about the Cayman. The weekly recycling bin has been pretty heavy lately.

No car mags saved. However, I do have the first 6 years of the Amelia Concours posters ,signed by the artist and the guest of honor. The first is Sterling Moss. The best is Carol Shelby and Hurley Haywood. Programs to match. And years of the Daytona 24. If I ever get around to fixing the garage they will go up!
Gave away years 1955 thru the mid 60s Hot rod,Car and Driver, and several others a few years ago. Regretting it now!

I too just hauled off about 1 year's worth of Motor Trend, C&D, and R&T to the recycle center yesterday (trying to clean up the home office at the wife's "request" ). I also save the ones that have something about Caymans or other articles of interest.

Occasionally (when I remember to), I'll take some old mags to drop-off in the waiting room where I work - empathy for guys who sit in waiting rooms with nothing but Better Homes & Garden, or People magazine to read.

Guilty as charged, especially the Porsche mags like "Excellence". My wife frequently gets on to me about the pile of car mags in my home office. I just can't bring myself to throw out any mags that feature Porsches. I still have several "Autoweek" mags from 1972 and '73 when Porsche was tearing up the CanAm. Back then "Autoweek" came in the form of a newapaper rather than magazine format. I kept every one that had something about the 917/10 and 917/30. Those I will never get rid of!

I started recycling them this year when I realized I never read past issues.
