DVD player question.......
I have a Denon 2930 DVD player that I purchased in late 2006, and it was a brand new model at the time, and a fairly high end player at the time when DVD HD and BlueRay were just coming out and I really didn't want to step into the question of what was going to be the HD defacto standard. It was about $800 at the time, when the new BluRays were $1000.
Anyway, I have a horrible time with it freezing up playing DVDs; and almost every NetFlix movie hangs at least once, and sometimes they basically are unplayable. Last night I gave up (again), and we went down to the basement to watch the movie on my $99 5 year old Sony player which is becoming a too common solution to this problem.
On new DVDs that we have purchased, I've only had the problem occur once.
I've talked to Denon, and they say the higher end players are simply more sensitive to the imperfections commonly found on NetFlix DVDs. I've talked to people at other shops, and they say the same thing. I've bought a cleaner for the laser, and it seemed to help but it may simply have been coincidence. I've bought a disk cleaner, and it hasn't seemed to do any better than some windex and a soft cloth.
What are your experiences? Do you find this common with other higher end players?
Should I take it in to a Denon service center (there happens to be one a couple of miles from my office coincidently, and it's $65 to look at it, plus what ever?
Should I call "uncle" and go buy a new player, and if I do, do I go with a BluRay, or just spend $200 on another cheapo?
The rest of the system includes a Denon AV receiver, and Snell speakers all around..........
Thanks for your thoughts
