So...some of you know that Cayman Club member ChrisN is my brother.
His GT-R is coming on Wednesday! Super Silver, Premium package.
And I am going to get to drive it for a couple of days worth of break-in miles next week!
A preview of my review of the car...
"The GT-R fails to take it's time while accelerating. Whereas the Cayman S clearly feels comfortable in it's own skin and reaches 60 mph when it is good and ready, the GT-R feels as though it is frantically trying to please some unseen master as it rockets forward. The Cayman is every bit the Teutonic executive in contrast with the GT-R which, no doubt, represents the manic pace of the Japanese salaryman with aplomb. " Winner: Cayman
"The Audio system in the GT-R is a huge disappointment. Unlike the Cayman's proper understanding that "the car is the entertainment system", the GT-R insists upon delivering studio quality sound in a bizarre attempt to upstage accelerating to 60 mph in a tick over 3 seconds. I found myself adjusting the system so sound came from only one speaker in the car, and kept to AM radio as a source. That, my friends, is a bit too much work to have to go through in a vain attempt to capture a bit of Porsche "essence". You would think that Nissan could do a better job in this area." Winner: Cayman
Break in miles? Just go for it! It will actually be faster that way in the long run...

"The GT-R continues to try to distract me while I drive. I find myself staring and the plethora of clusters and gauges, many of which are soft-configurable. What's this? Oil Pressure? There's no need to distract the driver with such mundane information in the Cayman. Advantage: Cayman!
Hmm, after you your parents decided to repeat? He must be the elder! Congrats on the GTR to both of you I guess. Not sure when I'll actually get mine but I spent about an hour playing with the dealer's on Saturday. I can't wait.
The dealer also mentioned that about 70% of the cars were ordered in Super Silver.

I am going to be as unbiased as the Washington press corps in my review.

Do I detect a bit of racism? They all look the same? Is that what you are saying?
I was the first born. Parents worked out all the child rearing kinks on me, so little brother was bound to turn out better.
The tranny actually allows you to drive the car in Auto mode and it feels like a nice sporty Benz. Absolutely usable as an Auto.
In manual mode...unreal...this is what a Ferrari F1 shift should feel like. Instant. The cars pulls like a jet taking off. Just constant, smooth acceleration. No jerkiness. It is different than anything I have driven before.
Are you going to show up with the GT-R tomorrow morning
( The European Sunday in Granite Bay )

My brother has his car tonight. He has his HS reunion, so may be up late.
Not sure about how solid this car is. After 3 runs using the launch control, the car started shifting REALLY rough. Making a horrible racket. Then the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the car went into limp mode.
hehe
My brother just dropped off his car with me for some gentle break-in miles. I know he will read this thread.
Emotional response? It is a Japanese car. It reminds me of when Lexus managed to beat Mercedes in every objective way at a lower price point. There was still something that made a Mercedes a Mercedes. I don't think it was just the three pointed star. It was a way the car felt.
The GT-R is intellectually an incredible machine, but my mellow driving thus far hasn't lit my passion after-burners quite yet.
