Nissan GT-R Vs. 911 Turbo on Nurburgring

Round 1: GT-R vs. 911 Turbo at the 'Ring, advantage GT-R - Autoblog

7:38 for the GT-R and 7:40 for the 911 Turbo on the Ring.

This will be interesting. Imagine the price point and HP of the Z06 with the handling of a Cayman (or 911).

A great competitor makes everyone sharpen their game. Nissan is going to press the envelope.

They have been testing the GTR versus the 911 Turbo for a while. The message is obviously that you can better the performance at a lower cost. I don't know what the MSRP will be for a GTR. Maybe $80k ? YouTube - Nissan Skyline GT-R Spy Video - at Laguna Seca - Teaser

How I see it:

Nissan are willing to do what Tuners do and Porsche is not.

Nissan is moving up the performance ladder and is hoping to cause some upsets at their competitors expense.

By making this public Nissan realize everyone is now comparing them to the king of the road, such flattery and only serves to make them sound more credible.

Porsche has a history and a legacy to protect in the high performance category whereas Nissan does not.

Porsche has a cash cow and Nissan wants to chew on their grass!

Porsche is the tall poppy and everybody wants to have a go.

One thing for sure, we can expect more of this from other marques.

A quick search indicates that the "base" model will go for $68k. 40% less than a Turbo. 480HP...but 3800 pounds...claims of 3.9 seconds to 60 mph.

Nissan is only Nissan, not Porsche.
It has little brand image nor longing .

To begin with ,as I told in this forum before, the skyline(GT-R) does'nt come from Nissan but Prince Motor Company.

If 3800 pounds is correct, that is a turn off. How about 2800 pounds. Power is great but light weight equals nimble feel equals fun fun fun.

The GTR outstrips a Ferrari in maintenance costs. It better do well.

Rocket Punch Auto Blog: Nissan R35 GT-R Service Pricing: Brace for $220 USD Oil Change

Some breaking info on the Nissan R35 GT-R service pricing. From the looks of it, Japanese owners will have to brace for some heavy duty maintenance costs:

* Schedule Point Check Maintenance: 5,000 JPY ($43 USD) - undertray multi point check
* Car Inspection: 200,000 JPY ($1727 USD)
* Oil Change: 25,000 JPY ($216 USD) - 100% synthetic oil
* Oil + Oil Element Change: 29,000 JPY ($250 USD) - include oil cooler service + undertray multi point check
* Transmission & Differential Oil Change: 100,000 JPY ($864 USD) - include undertray multi point check
* Brake Pad Change (all 4): 400,000 JPY ($3500 USD) - pad change + rotor service
* Tire Change (all 4): 460,000 JPY ($4000 USD) - specially developed 20" run flat tires

Prince has been owned by Nissan since 1966. To say that the Skyline is not a Nissan is a bit silly. The Skyline is a legendary car in the US among the tuner set. The GT-R will sell like crazy. I would certainly look seriously at the car versus $50k more for a Turbo.
