Googled to these pics after several references to the 550 in Cayman articles. As a new Porsche fanatic, I would like to know more about this car...design history, performance, etc. The classic Cayman design elements are strongly evident....less is more! Any information would be enjoyed !

Reason: fixed url
I dug up this fossil while doing a search to see if the 550 Spyder had been discussed here and as I suspected, everything has been discussed here already.
I've been thinking of getting a replica 550 Spyder since I would want to drive it, and lets face it, they're a lot cheaper. I've come across Automotive Legends and Beck Speedster that specialize in these recreations.
Does anyone know of any other companies that do this?
Talk about lineage. I've seen these cars before but not since I've had the CS. The design similarities really are striking. Note that even back then they could only get 3 instrument dials on the dash!
Don't know about this one. However, I got a ride in a 550 (one vin number from the James Dean car) on the Daytona 24 track. About 12 laps at speed. Whew!!!

Yep, you can see where the Cayman gets her hips from.

I've seen several replicas, in fact there is one here that the owner tries to pass off as original. For around town puttering they don't seem too bad but without modern safety features like airbags and crash protection you do raise the risk level when in them. But that would be true to the real thing as well. Some of them are crudely made and some (like the Beck) had to be observed close up to make sure.
