GT3 Roll - Famous German Track

Why they make you wear helmets at DE. Driver looks OK.

The vid quality is not great, but I am surprised it was not much more damaged / crushed. I am sure the roll bar helped that, but it did not even appear to dent the roof. Maybe thats just not easily visible from distance and poor resolution.

This is the reason I dont think I will be doing track days until I have enough financial padding to either fix the CS with my own money or simply buy a new one, if I crash.

One day....sigh.

except this was not a DE nor is anyone required to wear helmets on the 'ring!

still, driving the nordschleife at speed is something every true driver must do at least once in their life!

That was catchable. He over-corrected. I am increasingly convinced that drift school should be mandatory. I learned a lot in just a couple of hours of hanging the tail out and gently bringing it back in. In an early over-correction I did, my head was whipped so violently that I smacked into the door frame HARD. Just from the G forces. Helmets are your best friend.

That is the scenario that scares me. That's why I'm going to this class in June:

I agree 100%. Take as many DE events as possible, you'll be amazed what you and your vehicle can do.

He got the correct part right but paused to long and left no chance to recover. That's an excellent video for demonstration purposes.

I went to the Skip Barber car control clinic twice, got really nauseous from going around the skid pad. It is helpful but I was left wanting more practice. I think the best learning experience for skid control is at a European rally school, non stop skid control the whole time, three days at the school I attended.

AND, there are no Flag Stations to warn on coming traffic of a vehicle off road on the run-off of a turn. Imagine being there when the next inexperience driver comes around the same corner and t-bones you....

I did that class last fall and it was a blast! There were several no-shows so we only had 5 people in the class (myself, 3 friends and one stranger) which meant we could all be on the full half-mile infield course @ LR at the same time. We all got about 2 hours of seat time after lunch in their open-wheel cars and I was actually in physical pain from the beating you take in those things but couldn't pull in to stop because it was too much fun. I had bruise marks on both arms for days from bracing against the rollcage during cornering. Enjoy!
