BTW, I included a few shots if her non-Porsche stable mate while I was uploading because it's just downright gorgeous.
These are from the "working garage" at Far Niente Winery in Napa. They are owned by Gil Nickel. About a dozen amazing toys in that garage and I'm told he drives them all.
It looks like a mid 50's maybe a '54 or '55 speedster. It's the original body type A of the 356 with the smaller trunk lid and the body goes straight down and doesn't curl under (i.e. "bath tub" porsche). I think the larger bumper extension means it was for the US.
Dave, do you have a problem with a Kharman Ghia. The 356 is not that different than a Ghia and those old 50's Ghia are pretty sweet. If you can find one, buy it.
It appears to be a Speedster, which was a 356 A. Info from Wikipedia:
The best-known convertible model is the 356 "Speedster", introduced in late 1954 after Max Hoffman, the sole US importer of Porsches, advised the company that a lower-cost, open-top version could sell well in the American market. With its low, raked windshield (which could be removed for weekend racing), bucket seats and minimal folding top, the Speedster was an instant hit, especially in Southern California. Production of the Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars in 1957 and then started to decline. It was replaced in late 1958 by the "Convertible D" model. It featured a taller, more practical windshield, glass side windows and more comfortable seats. The following year the 356B "Roadster" convertible replaced the D model but the sports car market's love affair with top-down motoring was fading; soft-top 356 model sales declined significantly in the early 60's.
As I've mentioned in the past, I had one of those "Convertible D" models, which everyone who saw it insisted it must be some sort of fiberglass replicar. As far as I know, only the 356 B roadster is more rare.

That is one beautiful car, whatever happened to her?

A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!
I was thinking it might be a kit as well. I'm no expert, but when I saw the ignition switch on the right I started wondering. I've never seen a Speedster, but I didn't think that any Porsches have the key on the right.
