I have been in the market for a Cayman S for the last 7-8 mos and came to a decision that the 911 was the right car for me. Anyhow, saw an add in the paper that looked very attractive. Here are the spec:
05 997
39k miles
leather seats
Bi Xenons
Bose
19'' Carerra S Rims
Leather steering
Clean record and clean car
asking $51k got him down to $48
Under factory warranty for another 11k mi
So went to see it and the owner just recently bought a new M3 E92. He regreted seeling the car but had a couple of other expensive toys, to say the least (widebody X5, e92 and a one of a kind baddass Harley. Def a car guy. Worked for Porsche and doesnt want to sell to them to see them sell it back to the public for 56-58k.
Anyhow, the car was in great condition besides a couple of dings on the passenger side, which could be taken care of. Otherwise, the car interior / exterior were in excellent condition. The clutch felt great, new pilot sport tires and the brakes-transmission-shifter fell great.
The carfax also checked out fine. It was a leased car and was purchases at auction. Avg, 12k miles a yr.
Honestly, havent seen anything priced so low in the area, and honestly, it does meet my price point, so i will need to do my research and make sure this is the one.
He has agreed to let me get it checked out and has been very professional.
Deal sounds good to me, Have it checked out by a dealer and get the over-rev printout. Looks nice from the pics. I wouldn't buy it without looking into an extended warranty; owning a Pcar out of warranty can't be fun... if you're a member of a credit union that's a great place to get car warranties.

I agree, I checked with Pentagon Credit Union and they quoted me $2400/ $30 a month.
The car is about 10-15k miles more than i originally anticipated, but it seems to be wrothwhile versus going the auction route...
Seems that there may be something amiss - beware..............
That's why it's so important to make sure you get the car's service history and rev report... One explanation for the low price is obviously that he has already tried to trade car and knows what he will get if he does, so he is settling for anything above that. You mentioned he's in the auto business and they are pretty practical about what cars are actually worth. Most private sellers throw in sentimental value into their prices.
So here is an update...i skipped out on the black carrera NON S wanting to give it more time to look around...the 39k miles were just too much but the 47k price point was nice.
So, ran into a '05 Carrera S, with Nav, sports seats, sports package/chrono with 30k miles for 59k. The car is clean and in great shape. No signs of any wear and tear or the dreaded RMS issues. Almost new tires, clutch felt great, brakes performed well and no cosmetic issues.
So what do you guys think???? I would of course get it checked out by Porsche and the whole 9 yds.
She's a beauty. But red will get all the wrong attention. If you can deal with it, then go for it.
When I was in college, I managed to get my father's then four year old '86 911 carrera, sport package for a semester. Red, sand beige full leather, black cabrio top. I got three tickets in one day. I am not proud of it, but I definitely felt picked on. After the second ticket I made sure I was the slowest of the pack (last in line), yet somehow I was singled out for ten over the limit. I think you're just asking for it in a red 911...LOL
I don;t know what the prices are in the USA but if you are going to do it, go for the S. If you dont, CS's will be up your butt all day long! Mouhahahaha
