Among new lights, new wheels, and new PCM/Climate control systems, comes new PDK shifter and steering wheel that show great improvement over the tiptronic controls they're replacing:
No doubt this will be the future of the Cayman interior, but with round a\c vents.
Reading about it, the PDK seems like a really nice upgrade than your standard auto.
But, I never understood why they don't make upshifts with right and downshifts with left.
I drove a friends 911 one time with tip and it just felt weird.
Typically does the 911 PCM fit the Cayman's?
If the new ones are that much better, I may want to get it.
Just so the interior looks all oem.
I saw your post Blueeyes, but that pdf was posted here a few weeks ago (and originally on rennlist by eric@bumperplugs) and then taken down due to embargo issues
Plus I just wanted to focus on the PDK wheel... I'm glad they went away from the front facing button that clicks up and down. The new switches are pushed away from you and towards you for upshifts and downshifts, which is much more natural as it takes the shifting out of the thumbs alone... they're almost like paddles.

i have to say i dont why porsche have to have the paddles in that position -its much more natural to have them behind the wheel.....it will be interesting to see the general response

I suspect that the reason they didn't go to the paddles behind the wheel, is because of the presence of all those control stalks (2 on each side) behind the wheel which would cause some interference.

With regards to the PDK, I don't really understand how you are going to avoid accidentally hitting those buttons when going around corners. Especially if you have gloves on. That's right where I wrap my thumbs through and when your hands are turned over at full lock it just seems inevitable.
But that will definitely be on my list when I can finally afford a turbo in about 20 years. As long as someone has a software fix to reverse the operation of the buttons. I never understood "Push for a higher gear". I had to chip my Audi to correct this.
I still want a 'Manual' car. I know the 0-60 time maybe better with PDK but the 0-100 time isn't and I want the enjoyment of a manual car anyhow.
However, I bet it will be made especially difficult to pick up a non-PDK version, even more so in the US.
Porsche ruined what could have been a great Cayenne model with the GTS by offering this in a Tiptronic version, indeed with air suspension for the US market and then also limited the number of US manual versions.

I'm assuming the PDK cannot be over-rev'd in either direction right? In which case those concerned about warranty issues and over revs should be choosing the PDK right?
