Carrera S Cab

I'm currently driving a Carrera 2S Cab whilst my Cayman S is having the paintwork looked at.

To be honest, although I have no doubt that the 355hp from the 3.8l engine is quicker in a straight line than the Cayman, it just feels so back heavy.

The Cayman offers the perfect balance, and I miss it. I have far more confidence driving it in the wet than I do this Carrera S.

I'm 100% happy with my decision to buy the Cayman S over the 911.

Just thought I'd share it with you.

Does anybody else have similar experiences, and feel the same about the back heavy 911?

Yes! For a short time, I owned a 99 Carrera. I liked the performance, styling and fit and finish. I could not get used to the balance and tendency to 'wallow' when driven in a spirited fashion on 'imperfect' country twisties. I also had great regret about getting tiptronic. It difficult to hold it in the 'sweet spot' even in manual mode. I sold it after about 6 months and ordered a 2000 Boxter S. What it lacked in brute power it more than made up in unique styling and great balance. I kept the Boxter for about a year and found that the great majority of my driving (98%) was with the top up. I did let it go with some reluctance only to be rewarded with the introduction of the Cayman S. The Caymanis the perfect combination of everything I've come to desire in a sports car. Besides the sheer enjoyment of the driving experience, there'sfew things more satisfying thanarriving anywhere in what may come to be known as the best looking Porsche ever designed.

I have a 96 993 C2 and while it doesn't feel totally natural, the rear engine placement, light front end, and tendency to 'wallow' is pretty fun and a very unique driving experience. I'm constantly amazed that the 911 is as good as it is despite the poor weight distribution. It has tremendous traction coming out of a turn and is really entertaining.

Still, I ordered a cayman s because I wanted the perfect balance of a mid-engine layout. It's totally different.

isnt a 911 quicker around the track? I think it really doesnt matter as long as the chassis can handle it.

the cayman is certainly easier to drive, but the 911 remains the 'thinking mans' sports car.

driving a 996/997/993 well is a rewarding experience.

The cayman still cant touch the 911 getup and go from a standing start. That rear weigh advanatage is great for acceleration...virtually impossible to lose traction. This is where the 911 shines...coming out of corners. You can get on the gas, much earlier. The higher power ensures the 911 has a faster speed in the straights...until you have to brake for the next corner!

Have owned a 99 996 Coupe Tip for 5 years, then moved to an 02 996 Coupe Manual for 2 years, then took delivery of an 06 Cayman S 2 months ago. The Cayman is indeed easier/fun to drive, revs easier, lighter. Both 996's were not as well or tightly assembled than the Cayman. I seriously considered 02 996 TT before deciding on the Cayman as I just didn't like how the 996's were assembled from the interior perspective. I never test drove the 997, perhaps if I did maybe I would have preferred it. But I wanted something that offered a different driving experience, and I believe I found it in the Cayman. Very happy with it.

I wanted a true 2 seater, mid engined sports car. Not a GT.
