Edmunds Review 2007 911 Turbo

Interesting comment from yesterday's article:

"Through the slalom, it's clear the 911 Turbo isn't a beginner's car. Going quickly requires sensing the rear end's weight increase in proportion to the throttle position and requires quick hands. It posted a 70.5-mph slalom speed, which is wicked quick, but 1.7 miles per hour slower than the Cayman S — the quickest Porsche we've put through the cones."

A person might wonder what percentage of the time will be spent driving between cones that are not very far apart.

I drove at Laguna Seca on Monday and Tuesday and had a chance to ride along with instructors in a C2, a C4, a C4S, and a 996TT...and I had the best of the bunch (the C2 driver who just bought a Cayman S) take me on a couple of laps in my car. (This was an Audi event, by the way.)

They are very different cars.

Throttle steer in a 911 is a blast. But you have to work much harder to get the same results we can get in our cars.

It is not physically possible to get around the track in a stock Cayman S as fast as we did it in the 996TT with an awesome driver.

I was faster on the track in my non-S than the S that was in the group above me, by the way. :-)
