Boston to Mount Tremblant, QC, PG version

Celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary in late August. Driving from Boston to Mont Tremblant, taking the following route:

Route 93 north through the White Mountains
Route 91 to the Canadian Border
Route 55 from the border to Route 10
Route 10 to and through Montreal
Route 117 to Mont Tremblant

Went to Mt Tremblant with the entire family in the mini van in late June. The last 20 or so miles were made for the Cayman, wide open and windy.

Looking for suggestions for the following:

Any place to open it up, keep it under the speed limit?
Secluded rest areas where one might rekindle the passions of youth?
Romantic lunch stops to preclude the above?
Someplace not too far off the beaten path to procure Cuban cigars and rum?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm considering visiting the Circuit Mont Tremblant for a run around the track. Has anyone done this before?

Once in MTL, take the 15 north and then have a quick stop for a bite to eat in St-Sauveur, it's a small but cute town with good food and some outlets for cheap(er) shopping. If it's breakfast time, go to a resto right off the main road into Sauveur called Obodum. If it's dinner time, go to Gibby's for a great steak.
Leaving there, you can take the 117 which is pretty and takes you through a bunch of the villages of the lower laurentians but the road is really beaten up and not much fun to drive on.
I suggest going along the 364 towards Morin Heights and then go north on the 329 up through St-Agathe. It's a nice road in most places and there are a bunch of pretty lakes and things to see. Once in St-Agathe, get back on the 117 north to Tremblant. If you are looking for an amazing road, try to hit the 347 between Notre Dame De la Merci and Val St-Come.....sick road, I ride it on my sportbike all the time.
For your Cuban's go to a place called Vasco on St-Catherine between Crescent and De La Montagne in downtown Montreal, you'll find everyting you need there.
As far as the track is concerned, you can't just take a few laps just like that. if you let me know what weekend you are coming there may be a way to get you on track, but only if you have previous track experience since you would be my guest. I'm a member of a private lapping club there and we have about 11 weekends a year to lap.
For romantic stuff, go to the Spa Scandinave for a massage and hot/cold springs. Walk around the village in Tremblant and see the sights and enjoy the food. Man, there is so much to do....narrow it down to a few interests and I'll help out more.
Enjoy!!
Chris

Chris,

This is our second trip to Mont Tremblant, we stayed there for a couple of days earlier this month. Explored most of the village and went horseback riding and canoeing.

Returning August 27-29th (Monday - Wednesday). Monday and Wednesday are mostly travel days. Tuesday we're going to go for a long horseback ride in the morning and rent a motor boat in the afternoon. Not much time to do anymore than that other than dining and partying. If I was to narrow down my main interests it would be driving and dining. Will not golf , might take a short hike up the Mountain (or take the Gondola up and walk down).

The track I was thinking about had a three hour lesson with 10 laps for $650. I have no previous track experience and will have to pass on your generous offer.

Been to Montreal many times, love the city, incredible food and great people (incredibe women!). My favorite food place is the Atwater Market, will stop in and stock up on the way up.

I looked at the 364/329 route on Google Maps, driving through and around Lac St-Joseph looks absolutely beautiful. We'll stop at Obodum on the way home. Regarding 347, is it more than a driving road? Might have a hard time convincing the wife to take a 2-3 hour detour just to test out the Cayman. Would you say its scenic and romantic?

Thanks Chris, this is great information.

Chris,

Instead of picking up 117 in St-Agathe, could I stay on 329 and take Chemin Val-Des-Lacs, Chemin Charron, Chemin du-LacQuenouille, Chemin Lac-Superieur and Chemin Dupleissis, in other words coming in from the east instead of the south. Is this route viable or too "off road" for the Cayman.

You could keep going on the 329 right through St-Donat (great place...I have a home there!) and then pick up mthe new road that goes to the north side of Mt-Tremblant (can't remember the route # at the moment) and that is a beautiful, although a bit of a detour kinda way of getting there). I think it ends up near Lac Superieur...
The 347 is a wonderful paved road that is all curves but is not really much fun for the wife I'd say since it is kinda in the middle of nowhere but the ride to it is super nice!!! Check it out here: YouTube - 347 run down check it out from about 2:00 min in for the great parts...
I did not know about the lapping that you were talking about, I bet it's run by the Jim Russell school, maybe a guy named Keith.
I'm sure that you will have a great time and if you need any more advice on stuff, let me know; PM me.

Oh and you really should stop at St-Viateur bagel on St-Viateur street corner Parc for the THE BEST BAGELS.
Schwartz's on St-Laurent above Pin for a smoke meat sandwich...
Newtown on Crescent for a drink (it belongs to jaques villeneuve...ville-neuve=new town)...
if you want an amazing resto to bring your wife, try Da Emma on De La Comune in old MTL, perhaps the best place in Montreal for Italien food and wine.
The best breakfast resto actually burned down not long ago (on the 117 on the way to Tremblant) called Le Petit Poucet. Next time you come maybe...
Anyway, lots of stuff to do in and around MTL.
Chris
