Nice Cruise From The Carolina's To Upstate N.y.

Anyone have a really nice route from the Carolina's back towards Buffalo way, and any must see places/things would be greatly appreciated if mentioned. Going down to golf /visit for week or so and am in no hurry to get back so scenic ride is what were looking for, thanks to those who post.

Start out going towards the blue ridge parkway heading north, beautiful views and nice twisties. Speed limits are low though and you have to watch for deer in the early and late parts of the day.

Route 390 in NY runs near Letchworth State Park, the Grand Canyon of the East (one of them, anyway). The park is about 15 minutes from the highway, but it really is magnificent. A deep river gorge, with multiple waterfalls and scenic overlooks. Oh, and lots of narrow twisty road with giant RVs to avoid around every curve.

If you are coming up route 15 N thru Pa (beautiful highway thru tall hills); then to 390 N; get off at Bath --- head north to Penn Yann (check maps) -- 3-4 Northerly routes -- will take you into Fingerlakes; (wine country, spring ski resorts, boating, restaurants, large quaker commuity - with retail stuff) -- then north to Rochester until lake Ontario -- head west on the Robert Moses Parkway (Seaway trail) -- along the lake until you hit Canada...

If you are coming up Rt 81 from Scranton --- get off at Cortland -- take Rt 79 to Ithica -- Pretty, college town (Cornell) -- festivals every other week, Taconic Falls (Johny Weismiller Tarzan movies filmed there in the late 1930's) -- then go north onto rts 89 or 96.... also going into wine country...lots of inns -- tours...

or on 81 N -- go a little past Binghamton -- head northeast to Cooperstown -- baseball hall of fame) -- then north west to Syracuse -- onto thousand Islands to Canada...

Nice tread, I am always interested in avoiding the herd traveling on the interstate (official truck routes) highway system. I forgot all about Letchworth.
