Well, you guys often hear us Florida members complaining about how boring our roads are; well it's true... driving here is a bore. But recently I decided to do something about it; I started reading motorcycle route and scenic drive books, looking over several maps of FL roads, and I've come across a few roads that seem Cayman worthy... and yesterday, I decided to tackle one:
Most of the sources I consulted seemed to agree... the West Ozello Trail is the windiest of them all. It's a road that leads from Crystal River, FL to a quaint fishing town called Ozello.
Overall the road was a blast, I ran it about...6 times, and while it starts off straight, there is a solid 5 miles of twists and sweepers. Some turns have some sand on them so be careful, but it was nothing the PSM couldn't handle. The end is also very scenic and there's a pretty decent seafood restaurant at the end of the trail. Of course, you can't compare it at all to the Tail of the Dragon, there's virtually no elevation changes or interesting banking... but heck, for Florida this wasn't bad at all:
Once I find try out some more interesting roads... I will plan a little driving get-together for Florida Cayman members, so stay tuned in the Zone 12 Forum.
PSM - Porsche Stability Management
While it can’t overcome the laws of physics, the revolutionary Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system does lend an added degree of balance and control to the Cayman’s mid-engine driving dynamics, inspiring surefooted confidence in corners and extreme situations.
A standard feature on the Cayman and Cayman S, PSM continuously monitors steering input, road speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration to calculate the actual direction of travel. If the car begins to steer off line, PSM instantly intervenes with precision brake inputs on individual wheels to help bring the car back onto the driver’s intended path.
If braking alone isn’t enough to correct the vehicle’s cornering line, PSM then calls on the Cayman’s engine management system, adjusting engine output as needed to help stabilize handling. PSM can also compensate in an instant for mid-corner changes in load resulting from deceleration or braking. When Sport mode is selected with the optional Sport Chrono Package, PSM’s threshold for intervention is raised, allowing for greater driver involvement. If you prefer driving without automatic PSM assistance, the system can be set to standby at any time. In this case, it will only intervene under heavy braking, where both front wheels exceed the ABS threshold.
For all of its technical ability, PSM goes virtually unnoticed in everyday driving situations, preserving the Cayman’s natural agility.
I have driven the Dragon in the Smokies. 318 turns in 11 miles. Iwas told that I could get a tee-shirt from Illinois that states 11 turns in 318 miles. I know that Florida has more than that.

Haha they actually make that same shirt for Florida.
The road in Illinois is I-57 and it is truly boring, sorry there Illinoisians. The dragon is a lot of hype, there are better roads in Tenn. Hwy 30 comes to mind, curves just as intense as the dragon and no where near as many cars and cops. I'll be on the dragon tomorrow, on my Buell.
I make it to Florida about once a year so thank you very much for the intel. Please keep posting interesting rides, and I'm always up for good seafood.
On my trip to the Smokies, I preferred route 28 - it joins the dragon at Deals Gap, NC. The curves were aplenty, but not the traffic and traffic enforcement...
i have relatives from florida up right now so i should be going down to visit them in the near future my other relatively young cayman owner. Where in florida is this road?? Relatives are from Tampa and that's where ill be in the next few weeks

It's about an hour and fifteen minutes north of Tampa, but the road to get there is pretty nice too with a good amount of sweepers..US98.
Just go to google maps and put in your tampa address and put in Ozello, FL. The W. Ozello Trail is the only road going to the town.
If you want to make a day out of it the town is adjacent to and Crystal River and Homosassa River, where are really popular destinations for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, etc. It's the "only place in the world where you can legally interact with the endangered West Indian Manatee."
The SuncoastPCA region had an outing along this route and lunch at the restaurant a few years back. A great weekend drive and a great restaurant. Enjoy!
