Hi

Definately interested in a couple of track days.

Never done one, so would really like someone to show me the ropes. I would love to do Silverstone, after going for the GP this last year. When are the dates for that?

I'm up for it too. Post a date and lets try to make it.

Also, I am joining a group of 7 guys to drive from London to the Le Mans 24hr race in June. The car line taking the tripincludes my Cayman (obviously), 997, 996, 968 CS and a Ford GT (!).

I'll post details as I get them

I will almost certainly be tracking my Cayman from about June onwards - it will arrive in March. I've done 13 trackdays in my own carsplus a couple of driving experience days (Bedford Autodrome, Thruxton) in cars owned by the circuit schools.

Interested by the Porsche Owners Club days if they aren't too pricey. And the PDE day will be fantastic!

Tracksport, what are the dates for the Silverstone days?

I will also be doing a 'Ring run as well with a new Focus ST (thats the new-shape one) and a Clio Cup in the early part of the year, if anyone fancies that. Justa weekend there and back with 1 or 2 nights stop-over.

Jack

I'd recommend Bedford for a first trackday - did the last RMA day in December and it was great!
Only problem was that I obviously hadn't bedded the brakes in enough (even after 2500 road miles!) but they more-or-less survived

Many insurance companies offer free or reduced rates for Porsche Club days, which helps to offset the extra expense of the day. I'll certainly be doing several of them, once they publish their calendar.

Only concern about Silverstone is that it can get very slippy in the wet.

Standard brakes on my car - they kept their effectiveness the whole day, but I got some really annoying judder. Was a bit surprised, because have never had this problem on my 996 and thought I'd bedded the brakes in reasonably well...

i do quit a few trackdays/year including bedford, silverstone and other tracks around the south of the uk. without a doubt, bedford is the best/safest place to learn about track driving or a new car. it has so much run-off, almost nothing to hit and is very smooth. its well suited to exploring up to and beyond the limits of the car. i actually prefer it to be wet at bedford, because speeds are much lower, and there car gets less stressed etc. highly recommended.

Willr,

Was that in the Cayman? How did it compare to the 996 other than the brakes, and compared to other cars at the event? And when did the juddering occur? Straight away or after hot laps?

How is the rest of the car holding up?
