do you have a force feedback steering wheel? I had one of those logitech momo force wheels for my PS2 w\ paddle shifters, it made it much more challenging and fun.
I havn't played the game you're talking about though... - S.S.
I've driven a friend's GT3 on a track, and had no problems even w/ no prior 911 experience. I thought it drove wonderfully!
I just bought the official XBox steering wheel/pedal combo expecting an improved driving game experience. Both my wife and I agreed that the joystick was much more controllable, as the steering wheel seemed un-responsive initially and then over-responsive. We both did a lot more crashing w/ it, and returned it after a few days.
Thats matches my own experience. I bought it at best buy, kept if for two days, and returned it. I loved the fact that it had resistance, but it never quite felt right. On my lap it felt too close and I don't have a desk to set it on. I played NFS Carbon, Ridge Racer and Test Drive Unlimited with it.

What game? Forza? It doesn't fully support the FF on the wheel. PGR3 and TDU are the only two that do. I play PGR3 a lot and really love the wheel. I'm not as good with it as I am with the sticks, but it is more involving. You're right though - you HAVE to mount it for it to be useable. I went to Wal-mart and bought a $10 serving stand, sawed the legs off to suit the height I wanted the wheel to be, and now it's much better - and I can store it quickly in the closet.
That said, I think the games currently supporting the wheel aren't doing the best job - since they both were done retroactively as an afterthought. While I have gotten used to it and am pretty competitive in PGR3, there is a PID algorithm that games have to use for the controller to make it react how the user feels they should and they used the same one on the wheel that they did on the controller, which is obviously causing some problems. Mostly, you end up understeering going into turns then overcorrecting - and it feels very unnatural. If the game was actually created and tested with the wheel in mind, I think they would've gotten it to feel much more natural.
I think with Forza 2 coming out in March, and PGR3 later in the year, you'll see a marked improvement with the wheel, though you might not ever match your times with the controller if you've got a lot of practice with it.
I tested it w/ PGR3, Test Drive Unlimited, and NFS Underground. Unfornately, I was using a slide out keyboard drawer, and the fold-down front made it impossible to mount. Additionally, the pedals didn't hold on my wood floor. I don't want a lot of clutter, so adding another table to the setup isn't going to work. I'm glad I tried it, but it detracted from, instead of increasing the fun factor as I expected it would....

I could see that. If the pedals are sliding around, no doubt it would take away from the experience. And without having it mounted, it's pretty much useless. I, personally, think it adds a lot of fun, but I honestly doubt I'll ever be as competitive with it as with the sticks - at least for PGR3. With the controller, on race against the clock, I can get in league 1 on pretty much any track, but with the driving wheel I can only manage league 2 at best. We'll see how Forza 2 works out.
As for the table, like I said, i got a folding serving table (TV tray?) and can put everything away in a closet pretty easily. It definitely is not nearly as quick to get going as the controllers.
BTW, do you race on PGR3 playtime any? If so, PM me your gamertag and I'll see if I can find you in a race sometime. I play a good bit of "last man standing" with a good group of guys - not the usual kids & teenagers.

Speaking of Xbox 360 does NFS Carbon have the Cayman S in it or not? I know the NFS most wanted did, but I didn't care much for that game, wondering if the Carbon version is better and if it too has the Cayman or if there is a Cayman download for PGR3 yet?
NFS Carbon does have the Cayman S. I'll take a screenshot tonight and show you what mine looks like. It is my favorite car right behind the GT.
