I believe Ken will be along sometime to explain more, but the moderators and K-Man S have spent some time the last couple of days talking over some fairly important issues facing the current state of the Cayman club (see Ken's announcement, elsewhere) and we felt the "Rep" feature was confusing to some, an abomination to others, nefarious to some folks, a cool feature to others, and still others just didn't care... we decided as a group to do away with it for now...
Well... that probably is a good idea, as anonymous negative rep was beginning to bug some people...
But I just wanna say for the record, that I'm pretty sure I had the best rep out of any non-moderator. Though that just shows you my loserness in how much time I spend on the site.
STLPCA, I don't remember getting a lot of gold stars when I was in kindergarten. These medals are all I have!
Now that the rep feature is inactive, please don't let this deter anyone from giving someone props for a job well done. A nice PM or a good online pat is well appreciated.

Good move, IMO. I thought it was lame.
FWIW, I feel the same way about the virtual medal "awards." Reminiscent of gold stars in kindergarten.
Actually the medal awards are designed to recognize those who contribute to the site, either through their expertise, monetarily, by submitting photos or articles, etc. I think those who contribute and try to make the site better for others should be rewarded in some way. I can't afford to slip every contributor a $100 so the award medals are what we have.
My 2 cents: Anonymous "peer" points don't seem to help anything but can certainly ruffle feathers. People who are consistently annoying are known just as well as those who are consistently helpful without the need for ratings, I think.
I think those who contribute and try to make the site better for others should be rewarded in some way.
Ken
I understand the intent & maybe there are some here who are motivated by such things. I just believe that contributing to this site is and should be its own "reward," motivated simply by an interest in sharing knowledge, creating a solid database, and helping others.
STLPCA,
I didn't say the awards would be drivers for that kind of behaviour, only that they would be rewards for doing so. I think you may be confusing the two. Just accept the award and be happy.
