Just a suggestion from running a large forum site: might I suggest a PM be sent in the future to explain why moderation actions are taken, it makes it much less frustrating and confusing for the members.
I can understand wanting to stay on topic, but the point of my post wasn't boxster specific but certified porsches and dealer conflicts.
The boxster complaint board is *extremely* low traffic, and off limits to the majority of members, I chose to post it in the general Cayman forum so that I could hopefully get some help. There are plenty of general Porsche posts in the Cayman forum.
I don't know who moved it, but typically PMs are sent if there is something that needs to be explained. It seems that you have a question about certified porsches in general and not just certified boxsters? If so perhaps a clearer message title would have helped, I'm not sure. Let me look into it and see what I can do.
I think I can speak for most of the moderators when I say that we have to move so many threads that if we sent a PM with every relocation, we would spend our entire day composing PMs. Instead, we always leave a 'redirect' which is a link that will stay in the original topic forum under the original title pointing to the new location. Those redirects can last from 1 day to eternity and we typically feel that they are pretty self explanatory to the author as to why their thread was moved, and to where. Maybe we should standardize the life of redirects to prevent confusion and hard feelings. I propose a life of 1 week. Do you think that would be sufficient?
BTW, I didn't move your thread. After reviewing it, I can see that it's a bit more of a Porsche Pre-Certified question than a Boxster question, but at the same time if you don't read it in it's entirety, it does look like it belongs in the Boxster area.
Give it a little time. I'm sure the responsible moderator will see this thread, review the action and comment either publically or privately.
Thanks for your reply, both here and on the thread. The responsible moderator has contacted me, and I appreciate that.
While I would normally agree that a redirect would be sufficient, my concern with this particular thread being a General Porsche discussion and the location of the redirect being a limited access area I'd really appreciate if we could perhaps move it back to cayman chat or other suitable publicly accessible section. I'd be happy with a preface to the thread body pointing out that whille it's about a Boxster it's specifically about Porsche Certified, either added by me or one of the mods.
Thanks!
Corey
(edit, oops, sorry Ken, missed that you had replied as well Yes, my question/issue is with the actual Porsche Certification process, and not specific to the Boxster.)
There are times when threads are really in the grey area and we need to make a judgement call. During these calls, it's possible that we can goof, theoretically that is..... So if we move something, and you think it was a mistake, we'd love to hear your thoughts and will always consider reversing an action if it makes sense. You couldn't tell who moved it, so you did the right thing by starting this thread and asking.
Please contact the moderator that moved your thread and ask him if he would consider moving it back and why you think that should be done. It wouldn't be polite or fair for any of us to move it back.
Just so you know I created a duplicate thread in the Cayman area so that it would get exposure to this issue in both areas. I did that earlier this morning, and I see there have been responses in at least one of the threads. Usually I don't condone duplicating topic threads but for this instance I thought it was ok to experiment with it.
I completly understand not wanting to overrule another's actions. I did contact the moderator and thank him for replying and explain my position. As I'd made this a public issue by opening this thread and there were responses from you and K-man here, I felt this was the place to make the "formal" request. I think ken's solution is fine, so I'll consider this case closed. In the future, heaven forbid, I'll take it up directly with the moderator provided I know who they are.
K-Man S,
Thank you, that'll do just fine.
Thanks again guys, and since I know it doesn't get said enough, thanks for doing the thankless job of moderating this excellent resource!
