Cayman Club Eleven (11) moved items on the first page today...is this a bit crazy?

I know there has been talk about where subjects should go but when I come to visit the site the first place I go to is "cayman chat" because I expect to have a bit of everything, some silly polls, some stories about caymans and how they drive or how should I use such and such or some tech advice
If there is nothing that stays in the chat section, why not just get rid of it?
How come K-Man's topic of the April fools joke is not in website feedback?

I don't know...when the owners topics are being moved out of the place they he put them, maybe we're taking this a bit too seriously (Curry clash).
I expect this to get moved to website feedback shortly but just wanted to suggest a small "easing up" on things. I love this place and it's fun to have one Main forum that everyone can enjoy, not having 200 sub-sections to have to read through to find something of interest.
My opinion only...and we all know that it's only worth 2 cents.
Chris

After being frustrated like you I began using the "New Post" feature which is a good solution.

"New Posts" is always in the same place in the upper right. Eight over from the left on the menu bar that starts with User CP. Use it and you will always find the latest.

The rules for posting are clearly described here The Cayman Club - Announcements in Forum : Cayman Chat. Chat is the place for threads to go when the thread doesn't belong in another forum. It's the place of last resort. It's not a place to throw everything in. If OPs followed the Announcement referenced above, there would be no moved threads

You shouldn't be going to Chat to read when you get on. Rather, you should be clicking on new posts and seeing the threads you haven't read yet. "New posts" is always there. Just click on forums in the top left and pulldown to new posts. In fact, "new posts" is available from just about every page on the website. It's just in the pulldown under forums. Once you start to use it, you'll forget all about going to an individual subforum. The idea of having one giant bucket has been discussed several times and one giant forum simply becomes to unwieldy as the number of threads increase.

If it's a place of last resort, why not just abolish it? I mean it's jusy infuriating to see all the topics moved to other spots in the site.
There are thousands of other sites that work this way and it seems to work well; I ask why this site is so different and where the need to move topics came from?
Lastly, do you think it might be an indication that it's over policed when you (moderator) had to move the site's owners post? You would think he would know the rules, or at least trump them! (secretly he knows that Cayman chat is the main forum that people look at and SHOULD be the busiest.)

Maybe you should put cayman chat at the bottom of the list, effectively making it a "last resort".

[quote=chows4us;246463]"New posts" is always there.

Yes it is always there for me. However, I have to agree with the Op that it does not always work properly. In fact I have done tests by clicking on "new posts" more than one time (as a sort of refresh) without ever actually visiting any of the threads, and the list of new posts has come up different 4, 5 even 6 times in a row. In some cases, the list of new posts is 2 pages long, only to click on "new posts" again within just a minute or so, with the results list showing 5 total new posts or less....

This scenario has happened to me numerous times. I have never reported it because it does not bug me all that much, plus all you have to do is click "new posts" again to get yet another list....

Eleven is an unusually high number. Most of our members are more considerate of the rules of the forum, the job of the moderators and the future organization of the site. Some just ignore that of course and leave it to someone else to clean up their mess. Just like life I suppose. Check out the rules of the forum for more.

I rarely go to the forum page unless I am going to start a new thread, or when I am searching for something specific.

I almost always use the new post link under my avitar on the left side of the homepage. It has never failed me before.

The only other p-car sites I know are rennlist, rennteam, 6speed, roadfly and Porsche Pete's Boxster Board. The number of posts there on Caymans is far fewer than here. Try reading ppbb sometime. I find it about impossible to read through.

In fact, I find the other p-car forums very difficult to sort through. Here is a forum with a large number of posts and you can see how many forums they have MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Forum List The more threads that are posted everyday, the far more difficult it becomes to sort through the threads.

I understand you like what you like but consider everybody else. If you don't care about Cayman Sales or comparisons with other cars or OT or Specs, then having all those threads cluttering up one giant forum would get a lot of people, who don't care about ... whatever .... irritated because the have to sort through all them. How about the people who don't want to sort through hundreds of new threads a day?

Why does chat exist? I presume to chat about stuff not part of "modifications", "sales", "OT", etc. I view it at the "non-technical" forum. Your not talking mods, not talk tech, not talking electronics, not talking wheels, etc. etc. etc.

I didn't move K-man S's thread. In fact, I have no idea who did. Any of the mods could have. I know I moved the threads on light bulbs, 997 PCM and GT3 comparison and one more. They don't belong in "chat". In fact, many times people start threads in chat having nothing to do with Caymans. The rules are clearly stated in the admin post.

Do I think its overpoliced if the mods have to move threads? No, I think the originators of the threads don't follow the posting rules they agreed to use the forum. It's not overpolicing, IMO, but just ensuring that threads are where they are supposed to be and it would help if members followed the posting rules.

I find there is a time out limit. If you hit "new posts" after so many minutes (not sure of the number), then it resets itself. I find it irritating that if I go look at new posts, have to go do something else, come back and hit new posts, the number resets. I find this irritating as well because then I got to go look at "todays' posts".
