Personally, I do not understand why a member would become upset by having a thread moved or merged with another thread. If the moderators were deleting, editing or closing threads and/or posts then I would be concerned.
There have been times in the past where it appeared that a newer member was not treated as warmly as they should have been by a moderator. I do not think it was deliberate, but tone is difficult to convey in a post (unless you post eight thousand smileys).

I have been with the club since Jan '08, not that long compared to others.
There's always room to improve as with most things in life, but I think the forum is well run.
If I was to be hyper critical I would suggest the Moderators should avoid being drawn heavily into the more contentious debates and take, as their name suggests, a more moderate stance. I have noticed from time to time that Moderators can become as contentious as members and add fuel to the fire.
Same thing with newbies and repeat topics etc. a little more understanding.
Otherwise, a well run and highly informative forum.

+1 But only in debates that can't possibly be won, when everything is based solely on opinion. That being said we have some very well informed members, Moderators (and Super Moderators ) and alot can be learned in many of the other debates.

Being a moderator is a tough gig....I'll give you that. On top of that, I'm guessing most of you are volunteering, so everyone gets to benefit. You get a bunch of characters (myself included) that can get feisty with the posts, making your lives difficult. I only have two suggestions:
1. Try not to tell someone they're wrong when arguing their post. Just stating a different opinion will suffice. I notice this only from a couple of moderators.
2. Try to lighten up bit. Sometimes you seem to take yourselves too seriously.
Otherwise, I'm quite pleased and grateful, even though I don't show it in my posts.
Disclaimer: I love this site and the info I get here.
Having said that, I belong to and visit quite a few sites and have posted for almost a decade on various topics. After my first post here I was chided by a moderator for asking a question that I was told had been answered many times before and that I should search. I checked out all the other links provided and my question had not been asked or answered- at least at the angle I was looking for. I am a diligent searcher.
This had a bit of a "chilling effect" on me, as the Supreme Court jurists would put it. And I noticed the same thing happening to other posters. It gave me the impression of being "overpoliced" or heavyhanded. This is the first site at which I had experienced this. In my humble opinion the site would benefit from a little loosening up in this area. Hey, we're just all car guys looking for some info, this isn't freekin IBM! Just my two cents.
ahhhhhh guys - now this is one of the reasons why this site IS so good - everyone really get's stuck in to a debate - do you have day jobs?
I take your points about the moderators job, just if we can stop stopping a thread in its tracks even though its been asked before. Let it run for a couple of days and if its not getting any responses then zap it with the merge topic gun.
For example, people are bound to keep asking 'what's your spec / what's your ideal spec' and because I seem to have developed a serious porsche specification disorder I'd love to hear what the latest views are. And that's the point really - a similar thread raised today can elicit different responses from the same thread raised years or months ago - specs change! BTW does anyone else have this problem where they keep going over different specs of the Cayman they would now have in their head? Ooops - different thread.
P.S I am a member
P.P.S Would love to attend Crocktober fest, but is it not in the USA?

You may be refering to me because I've found myself knee deep in some of these contentious debates recently. I have to tell you this, I don't enjoy that at all and after my last experience I am left wonering how I got sucked in and how I can prevent that in the future.
My .02 ... I think what comes across as moderators being heavy handed is them trying to be helpful. As opposed to a topic such as "I can't get my key out of the ignition" being left alone with no responses, they remind the user to search. It is certainly a balance, but it creates an added sense of interactivity here. Rarely does a topic go ignored with no responses.

Point well taken.
Gatorbite, it may have been you on the other hand it may not have. Personally I'm not keeping count. My comment was intended to be a general observation, but I think it speaks volumes about you that you have reviewed your style.
