Since you locked that thread this morning and moved it to 'unsolicited advertising' I guess I feel the need to post an objection. Nowhere in all the posts last night did Brad ever mention the name of his shop, nor did he use the postings to solicit customers for his shop for this or any other procedure. And, what he's doing is of interest to quite a few people in this community, as shown by some of those members' responses in the thread itself. The only reason we know this is being done in his shop is other members ferreted out that information on their own, not through Brad Roberts' plugging his shop or services.
In the past when people have gotten on here and said ' hi, I'm from such and such Porsche dealership (or parts house, or insert other business type here) and I want you to buy your car (or parts or what have you) from me.' I can see where you'd want them to either pony-up as a sponsor or go, but I think this is entirely different. If there's no plugging his business involved, why should it matter if he's doing this in a shop, or his own private garage - it's still an interesting process with lots of interesting pictures.
A disclaimer: Brad Roberts is a friend of mine, but he has neither asked me to write this, nor am I writing this as a result of our friendship. I personally think you have gone astray here, since I for one, don't see an inkling of advertising, promotion, or anything else seemingly nefarious in his thread. Thoughts?

I thought it was a fascinating and highly informative thread. Personally, I woke up this morning looking forward to reading more, only to be disappointed that the thread had been shut down in order to shake down some advertising revenue from the poster.
Beez - I agree that Brad's thread was excellent and not an advert. It wasadding good content to the web site . If Ken gave us an explanation on why he stopped the posting then perhaps we would understand his actions.
What an interesting topic. Sounds to me that K-Man S really didn't like the post regarding boring sites and the same old topics. Can't take these things too personal.
His quip about boring had nothing to do with it, phone calls and PM's that I got from sponsors did. The issue here is trying to strike a balance between our sponsors who provide such services and someone posting 'informative' posts that can also slide into advertising, especially when coming from someone involved with the shop that is performing the work.
I've talked to the sponsors in question, I've traded private messages with Brad and what we are going to do is try to take a middle road where Brad can post the photos, but will refrain from making some of the commentary that could be construed as subtle advertising or leading questions, etc. Make sense? The thread will also be moved to Cayman Tech where it belongs.
You do not have an easy job, yet you do a very good job keeping everyone happy. Thank you. The site is better because you take an objective view toward everyone's perspective.
Appreciate your wisdom and strength to make a decision for the continued growth and stability of the site while bending enough not to be labelled autocratic. Tough job... excellent site ! Thanx
Thanks for your support Brad. I do consider you a close friend

Correct me if I'm wrong but it does cost money to run a site like this, doesn't it? Sponsors pay money to advertise and generate sales. Some of the forum members donate to this site to help support it, others don't. That's their choice and they are free to post and benefit from the board. Moderators have a legitimate interest in maintaining advertising dollars to keep the site running unless the members want to pay to subscribe and gain access.
DaveC I believe you are correct. Plus it is nice to have multiple vendors that want to support us as well as sell to us. Dumping on them isn't very helpful in my view.
