Masthead Suggestion

As most of the masthead and associated bb headers take up the top 1/2 of my screen (1280x 1024), I must constantly scroll down to read the page.

I was wondering if it was possible to shorten the masthead by incorporating the main headers (home, forum, articles, etc...) into the graphic design on the top?

What do you think?

I think that Stevie's suggestion is correct.

My laptop screen is a mere 1024x768, so I use the Firefox extension AdBlock Plus to suppress the masthead image. This leaves me with all the substance of the site. But for those who want the masthead or don't use Firefox extensions, a smaller masthead is the way to go.

Thanks,

Snaxster

The soft nav area shouldn't be removed because then you lose the breadcrumbs. Perhaps some of the graphics can be tightened up a bit.

I see the breadcrumbs, so I don't think I've removed that area. It's just the masthead image I've suppressed.

IMHO, even on a hi-res screen, the current masthead is simply enormous.

Agreed. Every post requires scrolling before even the first word can be read. Good suggestion.

Its been 9 months and the masthead is still huge. Every view, I have to scroll to see any of the message. Somedays, I'm just not in the mood for the hassle and skip checking in on the site. It would be soooo nice if the site were more user friendly in this respect.

yz250,
WIth all due respect the masthead was tightened up as much as it could be and on my monitor 1280x1024 I can read a few messages before ever having to scroll. Unless a topic is only 1 or 2 posts long even with no header you'd still have to scroll. If you would be so kind as to hire a designer to revamp the website and pay them to do it and get guarantees in writing that they will do it then perhaps that could happen. In my experience there are a lot of scam artists out there claiming they will do it and then won't and make off with your money, or they price tag is $10K plus for someone to get started on the job. I'm certainly not opposed to making things more efficient and tweaking the site, but I haven't found an economically feasible way to do that yet.
