Wow, it's been real quiet here lately. I guess all the Caymans are hibernating with the cold and salt on the roads?
I'm going to do an early morning hot lap of Staten Island on Sunday to clear my head before the roads get choked with holiday traffic.
In the meantime, I finally fixed up my license plate frames. I've been running with the dealer plates flipped over, but I don't think that would pass a concours inspection!
So off to AutoZone for two basic $5 frames, then to Lowes for a few packs of $0.68 screw caps (the 1/4" size fits perfectly). Don't know about everyone else, but my screws always end up looking like **** and rusting. And I don't even have oceanfront property on Staten Island in spite of what Allstate claims! I'm about 1 mile from the beach here.
Here are the results

Not bad. I have been looking for a plain black carbon fiber frame without "Porsche" or any other logo on it. No luck so far. I bought some stainless steel cap screws for my BMW and they lasted for 5 years without rusting.
Thanks- My Bellsouth "google supported" search engine missed it.Lots of hits with logos and tacky looking garbage. This is real close to what I am looking for. Someone is making a really neat looking CF frame that is thinner than this one. I saw it a while back at 6speedonline but unable to find the origin. Thanks for the link. May end up with this one.
Those looking for other options can find high quality chrome frames on Ebay for about $8 a piece - I got one that says "Porsche" for my back plate, and one that says "Boxster" for the front plate. They look great on my silver car, and come complete with well designed chrome caps to hide/protect the mounting screws.

Griot's has nice frames . . . not carbon fiber but nice frames.
Those plates look great. My choices were a bit more limited due to local news stories of citations being given to any frame that blocked the lower part of the plate. In my case, the "New York" portion can't be blocked.
My theory is, the less excuses for issues (front plate, tints, blocking the plate, etc.) the better.
Yeah, I'm a rebel!

Part of my 'New York' is blocked by the dealer issued plate frame. It's a nice plate; it kinda looks like its brass. I had no problems with it so far this summer as cars going into and out of the midtown tunnel were scrutinized pretty closely, for tints, stickers, etc. Went throuht it almost every day. I'm just going to leave it, if I do ever get a ticket, I would run it by the dealer, since it would be the root cause of the ticket, therfore making them hold some liability.
dealers don't give a sh*t if you get a ticket with one of their frames. Once you leave it is your problem. a friend of mine got a ticket in Nj for the same thing. dealer plate frame blocking the NJ part. it wasn't a porsche so maybe they would do something but they didn't care.
