Euro-Tire
500 Route 46 East
Fairfield NJ 07004
Time: Noon - 3PM
I'll be attending this event to try and learn about tire issues involved with putting our cars on the track. Here is a description of the event from the NNRJ/PCA site:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whether you are starting out or advanced in Autocross, Driver Education, or into Club Racing, this is the tech for you. There will be a discussion on the proper tires for your Porsche related to the driving activities you plan in 2008. Porsche street tire applications will also be covered. The discussions will also include proper alignment of your Porsche and how it is different for street and track set ups.
There will be a question and answer session following the presentation by Bill Bloomfield.
Come out and talk Porsches- friends and family are welcome. Light refreshments will be available.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope to see the usual crew of local Cayman owners there as well as some new faces. Look for the Meteor Gray Cayman in the parking lot!

wow, i was unaware of this event... i would have found this right on time information, but that is booked for me already.... i did get quotes from these guys on suspension and tires for the 944 and i have to say their price was very attractive and very quick on communicating... if i had not made a committment to one of my local shops, i would definately have used them... let me know your up close and personal impression of them after the event...

I have cousins coming in front the left coast for the holiday weekend. Thanks for telling me ahead of time!
So in the interest of family peace and avoiding drama for the next decade, I will forgo attending this event.
Lucky for me I took the car out for a quick 140 mile run today. It'll be 4 door sedan time tomorrow...

I was glad to see that you did make it to Euro Tire today. It was nice meeting you, Pcay60, and some of the other members. I will attend as many events as I am able to in the future.
Pistol Pete here are some pictures of the car I told you about at Euro Tire (2007 Cayman). These are the options the car has. What do you think?

This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.
Just got back home after a LONG day. It was great to meet you and your son! I was a bit out of it today. With the packing and rushing family out of the house this morning, I even forgot my ever present camera!
The Cayman in the pictures looks great but I think there are two items missing in it's config.
You have 19" rims without PASM, normally the roughest riding combo and our local roads won't help much with that.
From my quick chat with you, I think you would certainly miss some of the extra torque the "S" version will provide on the low end.
However, I also seem to recall you said the dealer was willing to move it at an amazing price, so that maybe a huge factor too.
Those 19" Carerra Sport wheels were on my short list until my I realized budget had a limit!
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Yes our roads here in the NY metro area can be quite rough.
Thanks for the input Pete. I think I'll go with a CS.

That sport exhaust sounds great, but why does it have to be so $$$? Grr, I definitely would have ordered it if the price was more "reasonable". Porsche charges more for that than the PASM option!
After seeing your pristine wheels, I felt bad and did a quick wash on mine yesterday.
