I am thinking about joining SCCA New England and participating in Solo events.
I would like to find out from other folks here who are members about what they think about the region. In Chicago SCCA was definitely not Porsche friendly.
I wondering if SCCA here is better.

I was a SCCA member but let my membership drop when my regional comp lic expired because I couldn't get the required races in in one season. I am trying to get into autocross now and it looks like the SCCA might be the best show in town. I'm thinking of joining up again for autocross events(in Western Ma) and to work the ALMS race at Lime Rock.
Check out this forum "Trackpedia" . A lot of these guys race and a number of them have Porsche's. Trackpedia Discussion Forums - Powered by vBulletin I'll bet they can answer the SCCA being Porsche friendly questions, seems to me I heard rumors they weren't.
Jayman,
There is autocross event this Sunday at Devers organized by SCCA NE. I am going to that one. According to registry chair, no membership required.

Yes I was told about the event at Devens. My Porsche service manager told me this last week when I was talking to him. Devens is a bit of a drive for me and I'd rather not go that far as a rookie. I think I'm going to the Griots detailing seminar in Bridgeport instead, I need to stock up on a few items and I'd like to see just how they get the swirl marks out as I haven't any luck.
As an SCCA Solo Events Board (SEB, the rules making body for SCCA Solo) member, I'd love to hear about specific problems people have in terms of being made to feel unwelcome at an SCCA event.
Also, while you don't have to officially join, for SCCA autocrosses you do have to at least fill out the "weekend membership" form now and possibly pay a small amount extra. This is due to insurance concerns and can no longer be avoided (though some regions are choosing to absorb that extra cost themselves currently, so you may not personally see a change depending on where you are, I believe).
I'm not in your region, but I just stumbled upon this thread and have National level pull.
Also, please don't think being welcome or unwelcome has anything to do with car classing. The CS is in AS right now and it can be competitive, particularly regionally, when setup and driven well.
Actually Cayman S is in SS class. Kind of hard to compete against guys in their GT3s and Elises on most of the courses I have seen so far in New England.
I went to two events so far and first one was an absolute fiasco. I think it woke up NER leadership and second event was much much better. I did SCCA AX school and it simply rocked! That is when I decided to get more involved.
I am going now for Safety Steward license and will be looking into how else I can volunteer.
The class where Cayman S sits (not the base Cayman) is horrid and I was told by numerous old timers that CS is not the car to compete with in SOLO2 due to how badly it is classed.

Yes, the CS is outclassed in SS. But in regional competition, I promise you that you can usually still do okay against a lot of those guys with good enough driving. I've beaten a LOT of SS cars and such in a C-stock Miata and Toyota Spyder, believe me.
The problem with the CS is that it is too good for AS and not good enough for SS and there's nothing in between. So it would take some pretty special driving to even trophy at Nationals in a CS in SS. But a base Cayman did trophy in AS. But again, most regional events don't see that level of competition, so in a class like SS even if one or two really good drivers show up in better cars, you're still likely to have folks there you *can* beat.
And since we know the CS would be an overdog in AS, don't worry about being an underdog in SS until you're beating all the AS times.
