So my girlfriend and I spent part of the weekend out on Long Island at a relative's place. The Hamptons are of course full of nice cars (and on this particular weekend, Porsches were out in full force -- I counted around 15 in one 2 hour stroll through South Hampton -- and they weren't in a group, either).
But what really caught my eye was this beauty... Now this you don't see every day. I suspect someone on here knows this car, any details you would feel comfortable sharing, would be appreciated. And if it's your car, hope you don't mind the pictures, she's a beauty.
Judging by the grill and the 1265mi on the clock, I think that's a replica. Then again, in the Hamptons, it very well may be real.
Either way, a darn fine lookin' automobile. Automotive Legends
If this is a real Spyder, the owner must have more money than brains! I think it's replica 1954 or 55. Google up James Dean Spyder.
You may also want to google current value.
It is a Vintage 550 Spyder replica with all the period correct upgrades. Current value is 25-30K. To purchase new from the manufacture as pictured would be $35K.
A "real " one is worth between $500K and $1.2M, depending on condition and history.

Just a note. I got a ride in a real one at the Daytona 24 about 4 years ago. It was in the vintage/history car parade prior to the race. As you know they don't really race. However we did get up to speed. WOW!
I won't claim to know whether it is real or not, as I don't, but given this was the Hamptons, there is a very real chance it was not a replica. (Ralph Lauren, among others like him, live not too far away from where this pic was taken...)

Anyway, glad you like the pictures!
Na, Ralph has a 55 550 with no vents stats in fron of the rear wheels.
