Cayman S Takes 1st in Class.. Twice in a Row! At NYMetro Concours Old Westbury
As luck would have it, I came away with the cup twice in my first two concours entries! The morning started out great, meeting a close Viper friend (owns 5) to the short run up to Champion Motors in Westbury near the Old Westbury Gardens were the NY Metro P Club meets for their traditional annual concours. I say short run but it was hardly a blast down the LIE. You see, I have been waxing and shinning and cleaning every nook that can be for 9 hours on Saturday and I wasn’t about to get spritzed by some geeks-a-gawking at me through his rearview mirror with his hand on the windshield washer button.
When we arrived at Champion, there were no fewer than 10 (count’em 10) fresh Caymans of all colors and flavors, shinning spit-spank’n new. I thought, “Great more competition”. As I got to talking with these guys, I realized that none of these fine cars were going to compete in the concours??
We left Champion, and scooted up the block to witness the Old Westbury Gardens in all its spring and glory after three weeks of rain outs. I wish Road and Track was there to photograph our entourage winding through the roads that leads us to what once was at one time, the pride of the Long Island Gold Coast estates. Those robber barons of old would never have imagined a lineup like ours.
Well the short of the concours was there were no other Caymans in my class so.. I walked away with the booty… for the second time in a year. You see the club held a similar event at the Vanderbilt Estate in Centerport and all the 986 & 987s signed up for the ‘Street’ class as well. That’s how I won my first trophy. And, like the first time, it was worth the work down in the garage… head down in the engine compartment for 2 hours! Now I know how Roger Penske feels brings those Spyder RSs to ALMS. There is no one else that even comes close!
Congrats Stevie! I know we were all wondering how you did.
So they actually made you take the cover off the engine to inspect it? I thought that maybe Caymans were given special treatment and the engine could just be assumed clean. And as for none of us who showed up entering our Caymans, well I know I wouldn't be able to spend 9 hours on a car cleaning areas I never see.
Again, congratulations and the car looked awesome!
great report... congrats..... so does this mean i can copy and paste this into the Porsche Post for the July issue????? oh pretty please!!!

Congrats on the tropy and great meeting you. The plenum would really make your engine even more inviting. Love those rims
Plenum
The plenum is the piece that goes between the Cayman throttle body and the intake runners. The factory piece is a long black plastic tube with a divider down the middle. There are aftermarket replacements which are designed to allow the air to flow easier/faster into the engine and increase horsepower and torque.
That was easy; 2 hours on a Saturday afternoon, Orange Fantastic, a cotton rag, a screwdriver, 2 beers and Cheryl Crow on the iPod player. Important note: never use a plastic treatment, Armoral, or silicone spray on the plastic. It will attract dust and dirt. -Stevie

Congratulatons Stevie! BTW try 303 Aerospace Protectant on the plastic. You won't have that problem with dust. It's also good on rubber and leather. Some of our sponsors sell it.
