My Cayman was exposed! (engine cover removal)

Engine hatch way up past the stop position. I didn't know about this until I saw that other thread!

Blackhawk hiding in the background...

Plastic wedge tools and lots of microfiber towels to prevent scratches

Carpet cover removed

Cover removed. Note the dried coolant spray on the right. It must have been from my adventure last winter trying to loosen the external coolant cap while the engine was warm to check on the level. Some back pressure must have sprayed the engine bay.

Turns out my coolant was underfilled from the factory. Since then, my coolant level has remained the same over 3K miles.

Hose clamps looked to be in good condition

The reason for removing the cover, checking my power steering fluid level. I have my first DE in the Cayman at the end of June and want to make sure I'm not low on this fluid!

After a quick wipe down

No way can this engine compete with Stevie's great detail job, but I don't expect anyone else to see this view!

I hope these pictures will help someone out!

Pete,

How many miles on your car, and did you need any steering fluid?

jophus - it was really quick to remove. We were being very careful with the carpet since I didn't know how thick it was and I wanted to avoid scratches/crimping of the plastic in the back.

Once that was off, it was just a matter of finding the right torx bit and unscrewing. The engine cover was HOT but very light. A total of maybe 10 minutes to remove being really careful?

Gator, I have 3500 miles on it. I wanted to make sure my fluid level was fine before my DE event based on posts I had read here about the steering pump issues at high RPM's. Based on how my coolant was below min from the factory, I just wanted to make sure the steering fluid was at the right level too.

Here's a link to the plastic wedge tools that were used:

Amazon.com: Trim Fastener and Molding Removal Set: Automotive

You can probably get away with a few screwdrivers or paint mixing sticks wrapped in a towel to wedge the carpet up.
