OK, I'm going to ask for some help from my fellow Zone 1 members here.
Some work I had scheduled for this Saturday has been cancelled so now I find myself with a free day with nothing to do. I probably won't have another free weekend to drive the car again (excluding Pocono next weekend) until the end of July.
Please give me some suggestions on where I should go to get some quality (twisty) seat time in the car?
Bear Mountain?
Highpoint State Park?
Somewhere on the Long Island North shore?
Let's hear about some of your favorite drives in the area! Maybe I'll make a sticky post of everyone's favorite Zone 1 roads based on the replies here.

Pete,
One of my favorite driving roads is Route 97 from Port Jervis (near Rte 84) to Hancock (near Rte 17.) I drove this scenic route on the way back from Watkins Glen a couple of weeks ago, and had the road to myself most of the time. Since it follows the Delaware River, and there are many canoe rental launch points along the way, Saturday might not be the best day for a ride (unless you get going early enough to avoid the traffic.)

I like the Merrit pkwy. It takes you through Westchester then through Connecticut. Nice two lane road that is smooth and curvey in some spots. Good luck at DE.

Pete,
I live right in the middle of Skylands and there are some fantastic roads in the area. I ride them all the time on my m/c. We'll have to get together when my car arrives in July and check them out. For now check out this website: New Jersey Motorcycle Roads
Skylands was a fun day trip. I've never been to this part of NJ and having a portable GPS encouraged me to try some of the back roads that I would not have bothered with before.
The park itself is fairly large but you can still manage to see everything major in a few hours. The air is nice and cool there since the elevation is so high. Parking is $5 on the weekends and is free the rest of the week.
There is a large mansion on the grounds that can be rented to host events such as weddings. I'm a bit embrassed to say the wedding guests all had eyes on the car (certainly not me!) as I had to drive past them to get to the parking lot.
The access road into the park is not in the best shape to low cars like the Cayman, but since I'm used to driving the Gowanus and BQE, it was fine.
After visiting the park, I made my way over the back roads to Prestige Porsche in Nanuet where they had a speed yellow GT2 with yellow wheels, dials, belts and stitching. WOW.
The car rolled over 4000 miles yesterday too. Not bad for driving only once a week since the weather warmed up in March. Next week is time for Pocono and some extended driving above 5000 RPM!
Hey someday, have you ever been on Clinton Rd. off Rt.23? Supposedly a haunted road with lots of weird happenings on it. Wikipedia has a huge writeup on it.
Pete,
I appologize, they call the Sussex county area of Northern NJ "Skylands". I thought that is the area you were talking about. I didn't realize there was something else called Skylands. I've probably been on Clinton Rd in my travels but I'm a bad one for names so it doesn't ring a bell. My offer still stands, when I get my car I'll take you on a tour of "my' Skylands!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything. I've been on vacation with my son. Was the Skylands you were at Skylands Manor? It used to be a private estate.
I drove thru Clinton road today. I lived in that area 1971-1985 and drove thru there alot in the past. It was one of the roads that I drove thru with my many motorcycles. Years ago the road was a mess. There were more pot holes than pavement. The town started to take care of it and now it is in excellent condition. The southern end (in Newfoundland by State Hwy 23) has a few homes. The northern end (Warwick Turnpike in Upper Greenwood Lake) has some houses. The rest of the road has woods and lakes (Clinton Reservoir), about 8 miles in length. There are lots of nice turns and almost no traffic.
Don't believe the hype that you read in Wikipedia about Clinton Road.
Drive this road (from north to south) then take Rt 23 N a short distance to Oak Ridge Road then turn on Ridge Road to Holland Mountain Road. You'll end up back on Rt. 23. Clinton Road and Holland Mountain Road are both real nice to drive.
If you want to do this drive PM me. I live about 10 miles from this area. I will be happy to go with you.

How was the Tail of the Dragon in the Cayman? Can't wait to hear about it.
My plans changed and we didn't go to Asheville, North Carolina. My brother and sister-in-law are in the process of completely rebuilding their house so it was not a good time to visit. Jeremiah is off from school again August 15 to September 2nd and we will be driving down there during that period.
My brother has found some other interesting drives by talking to some of the local bikers. I will probably drive the Dragon and at least one other route.
