Sorry to hear about your G8R..... How many days was it since you last drove it ?
Hi Colleen,
Well, about 2 weeks, with the week and weekend in LA, followed by the back to work week. I had it on the Porsche battery maintainer, but Melissa said that even with that I should be checking the battery H2O level once every month, and if necessary, top off with distilled or deionized H2O, which I neglected to do, so one or more cells may have died, leading to the dead battery. I don't understand why, but all the settings I had (seat position, radio stations, windows, etc) were saved. The total cost of the battery and labor was $303, a bit less than estimated. Anyway, good leason learned, all is good now with my CS--I'm happier now.
For the info..... No one told me that I had to check the H20 in the battery..... I will take my G8R down to the dealer when I get home in a couple of weeks..... My G8R is being driven and washed once a week while I'm gone and I'll have the keeper check on the H20 for me.....
Saw a black CS? parked near NM at Ala Moana just before 6pm on Tuesday. First one I'd seen in awhile, except those at POH.
I took a few pics at the car show ... Click here to view. I was a little disappointed, hoped to see a GT3 in the flesh, so to speak ...
As to the battery, I don't recall reading that anywhere in the manual ... I guess another reading is required ... sorry you experienced that Alan; and I hope you spoke to POH about the towing method used.

I had the fun of injuring my back and was stuck at home for about a week (no golf and I couldn't drive). I was going nuts. I was able to finally drive my CS a couple of days ago and have since then returned to work.
what a coincidence. i too was out last week with back problems. i've had a bad back for the past 10 years and when it goes out, i'm bed ridden...couldn't walk, drive, or go to work because of the pain (i was on vicodin).
No one told me that I had to check the H20 in the battery
me too. i thought our cars had a maintance-free battery (like my audi), i didn't realize we needed to monitor the water level in the battery. shoots, i haven't even taken a look at my battery since i got the car, and its been 16 months.
I was home from August 21st to August 26th..... I'm back in the BAY AREA until September 18th..... So when's the next G8R CRUISE ?
are you on another vacation? or did you just take a short "break" from your vacation and are now back on vacation?
i gotta get out more...my last vacation was in 1993 and my last trip out-of-state was 5 years ago to denver on business (to the extent practical, i avoid traveling).

No need to contact POH I think because all 4 wheels of my CS were off the ground during the tow which is the most important aspect. Don's makiki svc uses the smaller tow truck because apparently they've encountered situations when the flat bed truck is too big to get into a parking garage or close enough to the disabled Porsche to effect the tow. With my CS front wheels raised and the back on the auxiliary wheels, the smaller tow truck basically accomplishes the same thing as the flat bed. In addition, Donald who towed my car was really professional and did things like remove his watch before opening the trunk hood, used a soft cloth under the jumper cables to protect the front fender from possible scratches, and was super careful to make sure that my CS was firmly onboard for the tow. Apparently, Keith George uses him to tow other Porsches that don't have the roadside svc.
You guys should definitely check the water levels in each of the 6 cells of the battery. Use a large screw driver or coin to open the screw tops and a squeeze bottle with a narrow spout to topoff with distilled or deionized H2O. May save you some kala.
Hope to see some of you guys soon on the next PCA-Hi run or around town.

If it makes you guys feel any better, the same method was used to tow the Carrera GT when it was relocated.
good to know. i think alan is correct in that as long as all 4 wheels are off the road, it should be okay. btw, that was the same method used to tow my audi, which has the quattro all wheel drive.

Hey Ashe,
Yeah, it is good to know that the same towing method is used for the Carrera GT supercar and our Caymans!! I'm really looking forward to driving my CS on real long runs and making sure the new battery is fully charged!

It was the first time for me. I dropped to my knees and couldn't move.
Are you feeling any better? I am ready to go play golf, I think?!
I see you got the better quality drugs, I just got the basic 800mg IBuph.

aflau, sorry about your battery problems, that must have been a bummer.
I still don't get it? I also thought they were just maintenance-free batterys. You couldn't just add water and recharge it? I wonder how could we lose so much water? Thats good to know that they were very careful towing your Cayman.
Btw, I spotted a black Cayman this morning at about 8:15am on kapiolani & McCully.
Not sure who it was, but I tried to wave.
