I've been following the Complaints forum for awhile and wanted to know if anyone in Hawaii has experienced some / all of the problems posted.
The bad - I've had to: 1) have my coolant checked at 500 miles (low); 2) have my AC recharged at 853 miles (blowing warm air); 3) change the battery in key 2 at 900 miles (didn't work); 4) reprogram the radio because the amplifiers weren't working - no sound on 3 different occasions, last time was on July 23. And, I'm still concerned about the coolant - I've had to add about 12oz of coolant in 4 months.
To the good: 1) the car is getting 20-22mpg; 2) I've only had to add 1/4qt of oil in 5000 miles; 3) I haven't been stranded anywhere; 4) the dealer has been great about taking the car in w/o an appointment (AC, radio).
Other little complaints: 1) the hatch clunk (drives me crazy); 2) squeaks (minor); 3) the center tail light gasket is falling -- none of these has been enough for me to take the car in.

While I don't intend to follow the manufacturer's recommendation of an oil change at 2 yrs or 20K miles, I'm not going as far as to change it every 5K miles. We have to make our contribution Mother Earth and use her resources wisely. I was planning to service the car at 12 months. My comment about oil consumption was based on the 911's propensity to consume oil. I recall 1qt every 600 miles being "normal" for the older 911s.
The only vehicle that I changed oil frequently was my motorcycle, 1 ga of full synthetic every other month; but it saw regular use on the track.
Air-cooled; don't get me started. One of my absolute favorite sounds is the wail of an air-cooled 911.

i've got the "clunk", but funny thing is it only occurs at one place on my commute and so far nowhere else. i've also added about 1/3 of a quart of oil in 2100 miles. what i'm disappointed with is my gas milage...in mixed highway and city driving (about 50/50) i'm averaging only about 18.5 mpg...and i have a 2.7 (the epa averages on the monroney indicated 23 to 32).
no problems here (knock on wood)...i changed the oil myself at ~2000miles, and raced the car at our local autocross afetr break-in...gonna race it again this saturday at the SCCA test-n-tune event...
coolant level ok, no clunks, a/c is fine...car has a little under 3000 miles now, and is my daily driver...

The EPA has a new methodology for determining the mpg averages as the old method was based on driving situations in the 60s or 70s. With so much more traffic, it was found that most EPA estimates were grossly optimistic. The new methodology is supposed to go into effect for 2008 mpg estimates, and mpg is expected to drop significantly.
Gtkyl, I've had no problems (knock on wood!).
I did have the center brake light seal fall down, I just had them reset it when they did the tint. That was awhile back, so no prob after that.
The clunk, I've only had on really sharp bumps like once in a blue moon. Maybe I just don't notice it cuz I'm listening to the engine scream at 6000rpms..
I have added alittle bit of water to the coolant tank every once in a while, and added alittle oil once. Nothing major.
AC runs really good.
But, according to the computer, my mileage sucks. Just around 17 mpg which might be the result of my driving style.
Hope you don't have anymore problems.

Aka Wani = Red Croc
Formely known as "The Kloser".
I think the "clunk" is the most irritating "problem". It must be our third world roads in Kaneohe, especially the concrete bus pads and tree roots causing v-shaped "speed bumps" in the roadway. My friend's 29yr old 911 doesn't make these kinds of noises. Of course, you can't hear anything in it because there's no AC and the engine is wailing away.
Keith (service manager) wasn't concerned about the coolant level, said not to worry until the warning light comes on. Yeah, sure.
I think my (good) mileage is due to: 1) it's a 2.7, 2) I use the H3 (only 6 stop lights between home and work), 3) the time I drive to work (6am), 4) and runs out to Makaha (golf) and Waipio Costco (short lines, nice big parking spaces). This is in spite of my: 1) keeping the rpms above 3K, 2) not using 5th gear very much, 3) driving to/from our headquarters downtown from my office near the airport.

beastmaster, thanks for the info. however, even based on the new epa methodology, i'm still below what is "expected" (old methodology 23/32 and 26 combined, whereas the new methodology indicates 20/29 and 23 combined). i'm averaging less than 18.5 on mixed driving and i exercise a considerable amount of self control (don't rev high). in fact, i might be averaging less than some 3.4 guys.

Perhaps you don't have enough miles on your engine? Or, you need to use more revs? I noticed it got better mileage if I kept the engine around 3K. Thus, I use 2nd or 3rd the most, 4th on freeways, 5th only above 60mph.

My only problem so far has been the 3rd brake light's seal falling. I called our Porsche Dealer and they are ordering me a new one.
