Shoulder issues - switch to Tiptronic?

Anyone experienced shoulder pain from driving a Pcar? I've had a bad pain in my right shoulder starting a month after I picked up my Cayman. The problem has become so bad I have difficulty getting my wallet out of my pants pocket.

I'm now considering trading the car for one with a Tiptronic. Anyone have experience with that transmission?

I would get a medical diagnosis before I'd blame the Cayman. Would be really bad news to switch to Tiptronic and find you still have pain.

Funny thing; when I went to my doctor and explained the problem, he said "Did you buy a Porsche?" I was stunned!

Today, my friend went with me to the dealer to look at alternatives. He thinks its the seat, not the transmission. The side bolster of the standard seat hits me right at the junction of my arm and shoulder. He thinks I should try to pad the seat to see if the problem goes away before changing cars. And, when at the dealer, I tried a car with sport seats. Gee, it feels so much better around the shoulders. It really might be the seat and not the shifting.

Of course, the only car with sport seats was a $149K Turbo Cabriolet.

I would also guess the seat is causing you discomfort.

I'm pretty sure transmission has nothing to do with it, your arms probably go through more motion from steering than from shifting.

Maybe just need another seat, or worst case, another car if Porsche seats aren't for you But you gotta be comfy!

Since I'm finalizing my end of year charitable contributions, I wonder what the IRS would say about $149K as a medical deduction?

yes, I also had a pain in the neck!

[quote=gtkyl;211943]Anyone experienced shoulder pain from driving a Pcar?

gtkl; I started having a shoulder and neck pain (could not turn my head over my shoulder without pain) and when I mentioned this issue to my physical therapist (after back surgery) we came to the conclusion that my problem started about a month after I started driving the CS...

The solution? An easy one, to adjust the steering wheel further out (toward me) this allowed me to drive with the shoulders straight instead of pulling them forward to reach the steering well, a couple of days latter no more pain and I can look over my shoulders easy again

Hi Gilles,

I will try that. The pain is to the point where I drive my wife's Honda more than my Cayman.

Thanks!

Yes, I would, but I've never seen a car so equipped at the dealer. Most of the cars brought in seem to be minimally optioned. I am now looking for a set of sport seats.

One more thing; I tried out a Tiptronic-equipped Carrera. I didn't like the lag in shifting, so I hope it's the seating and not the shifting.
