Warminster, PA AutoX

I've had the car a few months now, over 5K miles, summer's fading fast...think I'll try an AutoX. There is one next Sunday, 8/19 in Warminster, PA (close to Philly).

Riesentöter Region - Porsche Club of America

Any one else going to this, or interested in joining me?

Did you end up going? I was out of town for a couple of weeks, and just got back late Friday night. Next time you find something like this, let me know.

The autoX was an SCCA event, with a sub-group for the Reisentotter PCA club. The weather was awful, but it was still pretty fun.

Some observations, especially if you try one out:

1. The Cayman got lots of complements from the non-Porsche SCCA crowd. The fact that it was being "raced" (as opposed to looking pretty in the garage) got me some street-cred from the hard-core folks.

2. If it's your first time, let someone know at registration. They'll be very helpful and hook you up with an instructor your first few times around the course. I tried it at first on my own, and did horribly. Then, I asked for an instructor and knocked a bunch of time off my next run.

3. It's worth signing up with the PCA. Everyone has been really helpful and encouraging, and having some friendly faces around made the day more enjoyable, despite the rain...

Check the Reisentotter and Schattenbaum schedules for the remaining autoX schedule, or check out the PhillySCCA site. There are a few left before the season ends in the fall. Hope to see you at one, Jonesy!

Hey guys... so one had to be a member of both PCA and SCCA to participate?
I live in Warminster, too bad I couldn't make it.

I'm not an SCCA member, just PCA. That particular Holbert Memorial AutoX was put on by the SCCA, but had a special subclass for PCA, so either membership was good. Regardless, if you're willing to spend an extra $5 or $10, I'm pretty sure you can enter any group's AutoX, even when not a member. You just get a small discount as the membership-rate.

Try one; it was a blast! There are a few more close to home this fall, and supposedly a really good one in Hershey in a few weeks; new asphalt, and a bigger lot, so faster speeds...
