Where do we sign up? Does one have to be a PCA member to attend? I'm joining soon, but I hear that the certificates/ PCA...stuff, gets mailed to you 5 weeks later. Will that be a problem with registering for the event?

Thanks

Im pretty sure you can go online, get the number and call them. If you have your VIN I think they can get you signed up immediately and then register you for the event. Though, I have no idea if you need to be a member to do the event or not. The whole point of the PF is to get poeple who normally don't do that kind of thing to show up so...???

I think BillC is signed up for the DE that weekend. I have classes on Sat so I can't really sign up but I am still hoping to show up - possibly on Sunday.

FOURTH ANNUAL PORSCHEFEST

Our annual PorscheFest is August 15-17. This is Potomac Region's signature event of the summer, as it brings together some of our most popular activities: Drivers Ed (DE), Autocross, Drive and Dine, and for the second year, Vets on Track. In addition to all these events, Potomac Region will again offer Taste of the Track, a great way for those not familiar with DE to see what it is all about... and help out some worthy causes. Also be sure to stick around Saturday night for the annual PorscheFest Gala Dinner and Awards Banquet. This is a time for the entire family to come out and spend a special weekend with fellow PCAers.

About the weekend's festivities:

DRIVERS EDUCATION

Drivers Education is certainly one of the most popular PCA events. For members who wish to learn to drive their Porsches the way they were meant to be driven, and without breaking traffic laws, this is the event for you. The DE is a 3-day event at our home track, Summit Point Raceway. To register, please visit www.pcapotomac.us, or visit the DE home page on PCA Potomac's website for more information.

TASTE OF THE TRACK

In conjunction with DE, our Public Service committee is running the 4th Annual Taste of the Track. Members (and/or their spouses, friends, and children over 18) who are interested in learning more about DE, but aren't ready to take the plunge, are invited to join us for a memorable day at the track; watch the tech inspections, attend the meetings, hang out with the drivers, and ride along in an instructor's car as he/she turns hot laps on Summit Point's two-mile, 10-turn main course. It is an experience you will never forget! The cost is a $60 donation to PCA Potomac's charities, the Carol Jean Cancer Foundation and the SPARC Foundation, and participants can choose to join us Saturday or Sunday. Space is limited, so register today by emailing Scott Mayster at publicservice@pcapotomac.org. Please email or visit the Public Service page on the PCA Potomac website for more information.

AUTOCROSS

Another exciting PCA activity that will certainly help you to improve your car control skills while allowing you to compete against fellow members is Autocross. On Saturday of PorscheFest weekend, the conebangers (really, they like to be called that!) are holding their fifth event of the season at James Wood High School in Winchester, VA, not far from Summit Point Raceway. The cost to participate is $40, but anyone registered for the DE can participate for no extra charge… and you'll still be able to get in your last DE run of the day. Registration is available at www.pcapotomac.us or at the event, and much more information is available on the PCA Potomac website.

DRIVE AND DINE

For those looking to enjoy their Porsches at a more leisurely pace and spend quality time socializing with fellow members, join us for the Drive and Dine. On Saturday, August 16 the group will meet at 10am at the Manassas Battlefield Visitors Center, and take the extra-long scenic route (including lunch in Harpers Ferry) to Summit Point Raceway. The group will arrive at the track in plenty of time to see the last few hot lapping sessions of the DE and participate in Vets on Track (see below). All that driving and socializing will certainly work up an appetite, so the Gala Dinner and Awards Banquet will be a perfect end to the day. Pre-registration is required and space is limited, so please visit our registration site: Founders' Region PCA Potomac . The PCA Potomac website has more information about the event.

VETS ON TRACK

For the second year, the Potomac Region is hosting some very special guests at PorscheFest. Vets on Track is a way for us to honor the brave men and women fighting the Global War on Terror by inviting a group of wounded vets from Walter Reed Hospital and their families to join us for a day away from the hospital. If last year was any indication, it will be an emotional and memorable afternoon for everyone. After arriving by bus, the vets and their families will be shown around the paddock, and there will be no shortage of people wanting to meet them, thank them and talk about their cars with them. Our guests will then head to the classroom for a 'track talk'; a briefing about high-speed track driving. This will prepare them for their own session of ride-alongs in instructors' cars for some hot laps after the final DE run group finishes.

GALA DINNER AND AWARDS
The day will be capped off by our Gala Dinner and Awards Banquet, when we will have more quality time to get to know our honored guests. There will also be an awards presentation and a raffle for prizes provided by local sponsors. The dinner is scheduled for 6pm Saturday night under a tent at the track, and is open to all members and their friends and family. Tickets are $20 per person (children under 12 are free). Tickets can be purchased starting Friday morning at registration for DE and will be available throughout the weekend. Please email social@pcapotomac.org for more information. So come out and help us to, in some small way, show our appreciation for the service and sacrifice offered by these brave soldiers and their families. Without them protecting our freedom, none of these events would be possible!

They have events to get people interested - Porcshe not required. You can even sign up for 'tast of the track' and ride with someone in what would most likely be a fully race modded car on the track...

I made to autox, could not make it to Summit though.

The autox course was a really fun one, had flow, a lot of camber changes and long straight where we would hit the limitter just before the braking zone. Bob Williams, as always, got first place with a high 58 sec run, prepared and modified cars ran in low 61s, and a stock 997 TT cab ran 1 sec faster than I could

Overall it was a nice autox and enjoyed seeing old friends, but I was the only Cay unfortunately.

My spin run: PorscheFest AutoX - 8/16/08 on Vimeo

My best run: PorscheFest AutoX - 08/16/08 on Vimeo

Cheers,

We had a really good Cayman turnout at PorscheFest. There were a total of five Cayman Ss running in Blue and Green, and two or three others came to spectate.

In Blue Group were Catherine (Midnight Blue) and Doug (Arctic Silver?). Steve (in another Midnight Blue) started in Green but was promoted to Blue on the second day. John (jcriggs, Black) and I (the third Midnight Blue) ran in Green.

John did really well, routinely passing a 996 Turbo, much to the annoyance of its owner ( to him....). It was my first time at a PCA DE, and my first time driving that track, so I was pretty happy to just stay on the same lap as John. I discovered that three days of Driver's Ed will burn completely through the stock brake pads. It's time for some track pads.... Oh, and time for new tires too -- I corded my old RA1s in the last session. Anyone have a recommendation for good R-comp autocross tires that can also withstand a few DEs?
