From the video it looks as if the GT3 driver may have gone in a little hot and lifted before spinning off. Anyway the important thing is that both driver and passenger got out alive. Hope both are recuperating well this week.

Once you mentioned where it was in the track, it was very easy to figure out how things went wrong. I was there back in April and by looking at the video, it seems the GT3 never really slowed down, he just kept pulling ahead until he finally spun out.

It is good to know that the driver and instructor are OK.

Finally, does insurance cover things like this? I was told that your typical insurance will cover the first incident, since it is called a "driver education" event. Is this true?

I think it's best you talk to your insurance person about this. I asked my agent before going to a DE and they weren't sure. They read through the policy and concluded that they couldn't exclude the coverage. They did say that they would probably not pay for a second episode were it to occur. Some insurances are specifically excluding coverage for any accident that occurs where racing occurs at any other time. So, if there were ever any timed events at Summit Point for example, then if the accident were to occur on the track even though the event you attend might not be timed, they would deny the coverage.

Bottom line is you need to discuss this with your agent.
