Just got back from VIR..rolex series

I'm sure a lot of you have been to Vir but this was my first experience...Man...what a hoot...Spent Friday and Saturday at the track...loved it....Can anyone help me in deciding how to do some track time withour committing myself to a lot of time and money? I have no problem with joining PCA but also heard of the VIR club as well as the SCCA..Can anyone give me some advice please.

My Dad used to race his 356 at VIR back in the early 1960s. That's sort of his "local" track, as he lives south of Roanoke. It's always fun to hear him tell stories about the old days. Things would always get wild at the campsite when the sun went down. I've been there a few times for AMA Superbike races.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but I just wanted to throw that in there.

Just go to trackschedule.com (aka Coco's website) and find a VIR date that fits your schedule. All of the clubs that post VIR DE's on Coco's site run good events, and all are open to Porsches. (VIR Club is way expensive and SCCA does not do driver's ed at VIR.)

I'll be instructing at several more VIR events this year, including June 16-17 (grand course!) with Mazda Drivers Assn, Sept 1-2 (full course, again MDA), and Dec 8-9 with Chin Motorsports (full course). I also may be instructing there Oct 20-21 with Car Guys, and Nov 17-18 with the Audi Club. Feel free to ask for me (Bill Koff) as your instructor when you register for an event.

There's a group called NASA (Natl Auto Sports Assn) - $45 per year, they schedule all sorts of tracks and have 3 or 4 skill levels for drivers, sometimes they also have instructors. Pretty cheap opportunity cost.
