I know that a few of you are still telling stories of the March 31st Round Top trip and there are a few of us that are envious that we didn't get to go. Well I am revisiting the idea of another trip. Not quite as "organized" as Papa's there will be no prizes or games, just a get together of friends and friends-to-be that have a common passion; The Cayman.
For those of you that I have spoken to or have read a few of my posts pertaining to the last Round Top trip, my wife and I don't get to get out as much as we'd like and the lack of babysitters was the reason we missed this last trip. Well on April 14th we are going to be celebrating my eldest son's 2nd birthday, so Grandparents will be in attendence. We have already secured their duties for babysitting, so to make a long story longer, my wife and I are going to Round Top on April 15th and are inviting our fellow Zone 5 friends to join us.
The specifics will be the same, meeting up at the Round Top Cafe around noon for lunch. For the Houston drivers, we can even meet up at the Shell Station on 723 & 359 at 10am for a group drive.
Obviously this thread will take on a life of its own in the coming week, so I will always be open to suggestions if you would like to tweak the specifics slightly.
So do your taxes early and clear your calander, especially those Zone 5ers that didn't get to go on the 31st. More to come as we get closer to April 15th, but mark your calendars now.
As I was telling Skup last night, I am promoting a big mountainbike race that day in Warda, Texas. Warda is halfway between LaGrange and Giddings on Hwy 77, very close to Round Top. That precludes me from participating in a drive, but if ya'll felt like dropping by our little gathering that would be fun for me.

Hmm...maybe we could do lunch in Warda instead and check out some mountain bike action too? I will be in a wedding on the 14th in Salado, TX, but could possibly make the trip to wherever people meet and then drive back to Houston. Keep me in the loop.
Reba's Restaurant in Giddings sets up a booth at my race for vittles so you could eat there at the site. The course we are setting up this year is very spectator friendly, the racers will even go through the ranch's barn during their laps. Hoping for good weather.

i've had the worse timing with car events/drives so far this year... sux
well, of course, I'll go! do I need an excuse to drive my Cayman? on scenic, twisty roads? of course, not! my wife will be joining us on this one, too.

Glad to hear there are a few takers. I agree with you Papa, any excuse to drive on the twistys, and I'm there. Also glad to hear that your wife will be coming since I understand she was unable to attend last week; I hope she is feeling well.
I started looking at the weather in Round Top today, and it looks like the 15th of April is going to be pretty good. There's a pretty good chance of rain on the Thursday and Friday before, but it is supposed to clear up by Sunday.
We all know what happened the last time when it came to the weather (weatherman, the only job you can be wrong everyday and still keep your job), but I think we will be okay for the 15th... good driving weather.
Here is the flyer for my race if you all are considering making it part of your run: http://www.tmbra.org/promoters/WardaFlyer.pdf
The town of Warda is on Hwy 77 halfway between Giddings and LaGrange, the ranch is 1/2 mile off 77. As I noted elsewhere, we will have a caterer onsite providing lunch, nothing fancy but burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, and he usually comes up with some other items. If I know for sure a group of you are coming, I will set up a special PorschePlatz parking area. You will have to do a bit of walking but the parking/spectator/expo area is all fairly contained. Mountainbike racing has quite a festival atmosphere, very family friendly, might make an interesting destination/stop.

I am still planning on going to Round Top, because my wife is excited about trying some of their pie. I know that Papa in Austin and skup are going to be in attendance and ecmazza might meet us there. Anyone else?
mtbscott is going to be in Warda and I think my wife and I are going to venture that way after lunch in Round Top.
