By the way, here is the route to TWS:
Be at the store by 8:45, no later than 9:00, please...
Brookshire Brothers store is in Magnolia in sight (NW corner)
of the intersection of 1488 and 1774.
So get there however you want to.
Route and notes:
9:15 depart east on 1488
L at traffic light onto 149
R at stop sign to stay on 149
Straight at traffic light in Montgomery to stay
on 149. Note: This will present a good opportunity
for the group to get split up. We will need a
designated "tailgunner" to call me about this. But
we will regroup in Anderson.
Another note: we are staying on 149 all the way
into Anderson. And once in the National Forest, the road
is very scenic and becomes an enjoyable winding road --
unless you get stuck behind Farmer Brown hauling hay
to wherever one hauls hay, Harley riders toodling along
at 45 mph or Mom in her minivan with the soccer kids.
There is no legal place to pass for most of the good
part of this road, so if that happens, just enjoy the view.
We will regroup in Anderson and turn R at the stop
sign onto Hwy 90.
Left onto 244 just a short distance from Anderson.
Left onto 3090. We will pause here to regroup if needed.
Note: 3090 has a 60 mph speed limit and lots of curves.
Lots. There is only one must you actually slow down for
and it's a 90 degree turn and well marked.
Absent dust, hay, oil spill, water, bicyclists and other
assorted things one finds on public roads, you can drive
the speed limit on nearly every curve. There are, however,
no flag stations here to warn you about debris, etc. on the road
ahead.
I have seen Officer Friendly several times here, so be aware.
I have been reliably informed that the
PCA has NOT arranged
for the speed laws to be relaxed for our drive and that
the
PCA will NOT pay for any traffic citations you may
receive, so you are on your own.
R to stay on 3090 into Navasota.
At Hwy 6, you can begin to wipe that silly grin off your face
now. Dull driving from here to TWS.
R onto Hwy 6 to TWS. Unless it has changed, this
remains a construction zone for seven miles or so and
has a strictly enforced 55 mph speed limit. See the
note above about
PCA and traffic citations. But we are
about 12 minutes from TWS, so deal with it.
There are two sets of waivers to sign at the track, so this
should allow us time to get there, get signed in, parked,
join with the group that will drive the dull and boring
route from Houston.
