Coastal Bend Region PCA - Unreal Portal
I’ve signed up. I’ve also become a member at the track!! Hope some of you can make it. Registration is almost full so act quickly and right now I’m the only cayman registered and trust me we don’t want my slow times to misrepresent our beloved cayman!

I'm jealous that you're a member there, H2R is a fantastic track. I'd join myself, but it is just too far for me to justify the expense. Hopefully I can make this DE, I will have to see. Thanks for letting us know, I'll add it to the calendar on this site.

I dont have pictures but it was a great event. Tiago ran with the fastest group and was one of the three fastest cars out there. It was him a race spec 993 and a 996 GT3 whom he kept up with. I ran with the second group and showed well. We were the only two caymans there and there weren't a ton of Porsche's for a PCA event which actually was pretty fun. The clubhouse was almost completed and is awesome. Nice leather chairs a big screen and a real clubhouse feel. I cant wait to start running there more often. I will be sure to update if they have anymore events for the public.

stopped by H2R today to check out the new clubhouse, it's all finished except for the upper deck
nice facility, last time we were there the clubhouse was nothing more than a concrete slab
guess Rio Grande Valley PCA plans another DE there in October so mark your calendars
don't know if any of the other PCA Regions plan to use the track

I joined the track, but then my motor experienced a catastrophic failure and turned into a 3000 pound paperweight, my Cayman must be chicken.

Joshb1, are you on the Harris Hill forum yet? I'll look for you out there after soon.

It was replaced under warranty, thankfully. If there had been a history of overrevs I may not have gotten a new motor. The dealer removed the oil pan and found bits metal, including cylinder wall material. They just buttoned it back up at that point until Porsche reviewed the case. The three things bantered about were:

1. Intermediate shaft failure at the end bearing, an old Boxster issue but rare on a Cayman
2. Oil ingestion, oil hydrolock of one or more combustion chambers, perhaps leading to...
3. Rod bearing failure, and then one piston/rod failure which punched thru the cylinder wall, the oil pan was full of coolant by the way.

The car threw up a gigantic smoke trail and then stopped running, oil/coolant emulsion was in the exhaust and dripping out of the tailpipe. It's all fixed now, but it has me thinking about a 996 GT3.

That's about all I'd like to say about this episode. Suffice it to say that there are likely other Caymans that have motors that let go, the parties involved just don't talk it.
I'm disappointed that the Cayman isn't quite as bulletproof as I has hoped it would be, but pleased that Porsche stood behind their car.

Do you have mods on your car? I had an issue with my Integra Type R and I was denied warranty repair(granted it was an extended warranty) because I made modifications to the car. Not only did they deny the repairs, but they voided my warranty as well and I received no reimbursement. I never made any claims on it. I will remember to remove all the aftermarket parts next time.

How would Porsche know if there is a history of high revs? I think I remember reading that diagnostics can be read from the vehicle showing some history about it; is this where it would show up?

DME (ECU) records overrevs, levels 1-5

Could you elaborate on what the levels reference means? Do you mean over revs like past redline?

That's it, past redline. You'll need to search to find the threshold for each level, but 1's are common, 2's less so, 3-5 money.
