My wife and I were eating at Crimson in Los Gatos (terrible service BTW) when it hit. My wife and the lady next to me commented on how nobody moved. I said "when the wine glasses fall over it's time to move".

What earthquake??

One of the advantages of living in Calaveras county (aka. the boonies) is that sitting on the foot of the range we don't feel quakes much... but we actually did feel it at 8:04 all the way in Sonora, though it was pretty mild by the time the shock wave traveled the 130 miles East. D&D

Re: "earthquake weather"

The locals know it's B.S. but it's irresitably fun to psyche out the newbies and tourists with it. Next time you're hanging out with a new resident or visitor outside on a warm, windless day (not too many of those), take a look around at the view, sniff the air a few times and calmly say "Yeah... feels like earthquake-weather."

They will be spooked for the rest of the day. Hilarious.

You are so right! It's a very inside joke.

fantastic! hope there was no damage...
This one was no where near as fun as the '89 Cypress street collapsing, Bay Bridge collapsing Loma Prieta quake. I myself commuted on the Cypress freeway every day, and if the quake had occurred 30 minutes later than it did, me and my '88 E30 M3 would be very thin right now.

close call!

the '89 earthquake is one of those terrifying disaster connections between people who were there that others just cannot understand. i have heard the question, "where were you during the 89 quake?" countless times, and the gravity of native answers always strike me deeply.
