LSD Installation Bay Area

So I've read in another thread that Porsche dealerships are a good place to look for installation of a LSD. Some shops are more mod friendly than others. One is Rector Porsche in Burlingame. I called them up and it turns out if you call the service department, you may not reach the guy in charge of the LSD installs. So just so others won't run through the same trouble I did, here's the contact info for that guy you SHOULD be talking to:

I had my Quaife installation done at Rector. They follow the factory service manual procedure and remove the transmission from the car to do the differential shimming procedure. The resulting cost is about $1500.

DaveN007 has been working with another shop (I don't think it's a Porsche dealer, but I'm not sure) to get his Quaife installation done without removing the transmission from the car. The shimming will be based on careful, accurate measurements of the existing and Quaife differentials. This approach has the potential to save a lot of money on the installation cost (I'd guess an $800 savings could be possible). PM DaveN007 for details.

I attempted to kill 2 birds with one transmission removal by having Rector install a Sharkwerks lightweight flywheel while they were at it. Since the transmission has to come off to get the flywheel in, there was no penalty to doing the Quaife installation and differential shimming at the same time.

This is Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City. Christian Glass is the tech. According to him, they send the Quaife and your diff to a Porsche racing shop/machine shop where they measure the differences and with that info he can accurately set preload and backlash and shim appropriately. They are also going to do my BBI pulley and Christian said that he uses a smaller serpentine belt when he installs the Mantis pulleys to keep the factory tension...but will have to measure the BBI to see what is needed.

I am debating doing a LWFW at the same time. That way I will have the tranny out for the Quaife. No one disagrees that the Quaife can be perfectly installed with the tranny out, but there are folks skeptical about the" leave in the tranny" method. I may have to buy the LWFW from Sharkwerks and have Carlsen do it. Sharkrwerks is too busy with Turbos and Sheik's cars to fit me into the schedule while I am still young.

I have some events in the next few weeks that I would really like to be ready for and they are booked.

Originally the plan was to have my car at Carlsen on Monday. That didn't work out too well.

ROFL! Blame your Shiek-brother Chris for his 700hp shenanigans But I hear ya' and I'm sorry we're booked (we're not a big place so it gets like that) so far out (I've been working weekends to try and get ahead lol!). Having said that, Christian is a _really_ good guy and I've trusted him with my cars (life?) plenty of times. If you need the LWF let me know as I can usually get it the same day or at least by the next...
