$1400 is a total ripped-off.

I don't think so. A really good installer will charge between $750 and $950, and so with dealer markup...$an asking price of $1400 is not out of line.

BTW my installer does not use the kits, but covers completely custom....resulting in a better job!

His price for the Cayman is $850.00

My dealer (in St. Louis) had it done by a detailer and charged $650 for 3M (full front, hood and mirrors). I alsoadded the door edges for another $30 (I'm not sure I would do the door edges again). It was done very well (no bubbles or defects). My Cayman is now nearly 4 months old and looks great. hjowever, the dealer had a black one on showroom floor and the clear bra was practically invisible. My Cayman is Arctic Silver andthe edges aremore visible than the one on the black Cayman (also 3M). I think the problem is the clear material has slightly more of a surface texture than the apoint clear coat. Maybe this difference will go away as I polish the bra more with the Zaino treatment (but be careful to avoid polish or wax at the edge where it will make the joint more visible - I did, then worked quite hard to get it out!). If I had it to do again -- I would certainly do it.

Barry - when you say 'custom' and not kit, i presume your installer uses a plotter to cut to specs?

Gene - glad to know Venture Tape has good results, did they remove your Xenon for the install?

Yes, sorry for the delayed response.

Well, I just had a clear bra and window tint installed yesterday by Premeir Protective Films in Fremont just off Auto mall parkway. The basic cayman kit was $795, plus I had them do the custom bumper option for another $290. With that they take off the headlights and fog light grills and tuck it in wherever possible so you see the seams less. I think they did a beautiful job. Windows look great too. I went to them because they've done lots of work on very high end cars (even a Carrera GT!). Plus they show their work vs. some of their competitors on their website, and I certainly didn't want my car to look like that! Here's their site:

www.premiermobilegroup.com/

Very professional too, they did a walk through with me to make sure there were no pre-existing dents (he found a small one I had not noticed, unfortunately).

Here's a couple pictures of the results. From behind the film, you can see the edge more, but from the front you can barely tell. You can barely see the edge on the picture of the headlight:

My new CS arrives the middle of December and it's the new Meteor grey, anyone on the forum from the Cleveland, Ohio area that has had a clear bra installed with any GOOD results they can recommend? I'm still not sure if I want it or not, I'm real concerned about seeing the stop/start line on the hood.

The line across the hood looks a whole lot better than paint chips on the nose.....
