CLEAR MASK 3M

My CS is due in next month and the dealer has quoted me $1,400 to install the 3M product. I realize 3M is the gold standard but sounds a bit steep for some plastic. Are there any more reasonable alternatives from 3 party vendors/installors?

Lowfat,

I just saw your post on my trip report - and you pretty much asked the same question there, too...

$1200-$1400 is pretty standard for installation of the 3M stuff, and most 3rd parties use the same material, the differences come from who actually makes the patterns, how much of the car is covered, who does the installation, etc. My dealer (Carlsen, in Redwood City) gave me a small break on the price because I've been a long-time customer. They (actually a 3rd party sub-contractor) installed a product called Clear Armor, which uses the 3M plastic. It may sound steep for some plastic, but the installation process is not easty to do right - there's lots of compound curves to deal with - and when you compare it to paying somewhere between $3-4k to have the front of your car repainted sometime down the road, I personally think it's money well spent.

Brad, thanks for the input. I presume it was precut for the CS, which should enhance the fit.

Lowfat,

Welcome and check with our sponsors StarShield Armor and Invincaman about getting a clear bra, they can certainly beat that price...

i will pick up my cayman tomorrow. I made an appointment to install clear bra on saturday.
Invisible-armour.com charges for $680. They use Venturetape instead of 3M plastic.

You can look at their website www.invisible-armour.com

My Bay area dealer just quoted me over $1595.00 For a clear bra, I called a second dealer who is close to the same location and they wanted $500.00 less? I then did a web search in the Bay area and located 'Advanced Vehicle Outfitters' They will come to you and install the 3M bra for $500.00. supposedly with a life time warranty You can see their web site at http://www.theclearcarshield.com/ Has anybody heard of them? I tentatively have made an appt. with them for next week. We will see.

In colorado, the dealers charge $600-$700 for the 3M Clear Bra installation. You are getting ripped off.

Hi Ray,

You might want to take a look at this company that works on a lot of high end type of cars. I'm thinking about taking my car here when I get it in September. I believe that they are quoting approximately $900 but the amount of coverage may differ from other companies.

They are located in Fremont.

Good luck and let me know what you think about them.

Hi Tracy - Neo (see above) appears to have very good result with his. I am avoiding 3M since there seems to be some orange peel effect depending on color (mainly darker tone). So I may move forward with the Ventura mask on my FX first and see how that turn out; but definitely I would not pay over $700.

I am in teh Bay Area and got the 3M product--it did cost $1100 and seemed high, but the installer did a fantastic job, and it looks great so far (3 months later). The dealer said that this the guy who did it does all the nice cars in the Peninsula area for most high end dealers--certainly seemed to be true judging by the business at the shop.

Just got my FX completed pass weekend, a Ventura product but with great results. Will schedule to get my CS done in the coming weeks...if anyone is interested, it is called Transparentbra.com

I believe Neo had the same installer, very professional and detailed.

Tracy and Ray,

I used Premier Mobile for my CS back in January. Three guys came to my house and spent several hours doing the install of a Venture Tape product. 6 months down the line I'm very happy with the result.
