This will be a good event for Zone 7 guys:
INITIAL X
The Annual GGR/Porboys
Beginners Autocross School
Event Chairmen: John Seidell and Howard Yao
Date: March 3, 2007. Saturday from 7:30-5:00
Cost: $95 a person, includes lunch and
t-shirt
Location: Monster Park (Candlestick) parking lot
This event is limited to 50 students and is intended for members who have little or no autocross experience. Demand is always high for this event, so if I receive your check after the school is full, you will be placed on the waiting list, in case someone cancels. If you do not want to be on the waiting list, let me know and I will simply throw away your check. Refunds for cancellations will be given two weeks before the event, no refunds after Feb 16th.
Skills that we will be working on include: skid pad, course walk, course analysis, worker positions, and a lot of seat time on the course! This is also a good event for couples, family, and friends to spend a day learning together. Two drivers can share one Porsche for this event, with no reduction in driving time.
If it rains that day, we will reschedule to event as soon as possible. Make sure you have at least half a tank of gas and that the carefully check your tire pressures. If you do not know the optimal tire pressures for your car, a rule of thumb is to add 4-5 psi to the factory recommended pressures (not the maximum pressure on the side of your tires!). You'd rather have more air than less, so you don't scuff up your sidewalls. If you don't have a good quality dial tire pressure gauge, I would recommend investing in one, you should be checking your tire pressures at least every month anyway.
The only safety equipment required is a helmet and the standard seat belts in your car. If you do not own a helmet, we have a limited amount of loaners on a first come first serve basis. Keep in mind, our loaners helmets are old and stinky - a last resort. Buying a new helmet or borrowing a helmet from a friend is the best route.
If you do consider buying a helmet, either a motorcycle or autoracing helmet will do fine. Make sure the helmet has a SNELL approved safety rating. You probably don't need to spend over $200 for a helmet, there are a lot of good ones for about $150 at your local motorcycle shop. The brand isn't as important as the fit and comfort of the helmet.
Before we drive in the morning, we will tech all the cars. We will be checking for the following:
* helmet (with 1990 or later SNELL sticker)
* seat belts in working condition
* good brake pedal pressure (if you haven't bled your brake fluid in the past two years, its a good idea to do so anyway)
* check wheel bearings are adjusted and not too loose (this only applies to older Porsches and should only take a Porsche mechanic less than 30 minutes to do, the newer water cooled Porsches do not have adjustable bearings)
* battery is well secured
* all loose contents of the car have been removed
We won't be checking your motor oil level, but I would strongly recommend that you top up your oil level - once again, a good habit to get into, especially for the older Porsches.
If you have a child between the ages of 16-18 and would like to participate, please print out the following form, sign it, and return it with your payment -
