Exclamation California Festival of Speed, April 4-6

I am posting the notice below to see if there are Zone 8 Caymanites who would like to attend as a group. I will be there working on track tours.

The California Festival of Speed (previously the Zone 8 Speed Festival) is being held on April 4-6 at the California Speedway in Fontana. This annual event is in its 7th year and is a fabulous weekend for Porschephiles. The PCA (Porsche Club of America) Club Race brings some of the finest Porsche racers you’ll find anywhere. Teams include Kevin Buckler’s Racers Group, Steve Beddor’s latest RUF CTR, Lorren Beggs, 911 Design and many others. The American Le Mans Series is the only other series that comes close to this quality of Porsche racing. In addition to the Club Race, we are hosting the Yokohama Drivers Cup, a PCA Time Trial, a Concours d’Elegance, Vendor’s Row, Car Corrals and lunchtime Track Tours. Track Tours allow everyone an opportunity to drive the actual track (at reduced speed, of course).

Porsche 917s, 956s, 962s and 935s - The other thing we are extremely excited about is the inclusion (for the first time this year) of a very special Club Race Run Group made up of Porsche 917s, 956s, 962s and 935s. We can’t begin to describe what a rare opportunity it is to not only see these cars at speed on a track, but to be able to get up close and personal in the pits.

We are looking for ways to attract more Porsche enthusiasts to the event, which is why we are approaching Porsche Clubs and Special Interest Groups. Typically there is a $10 parking fee for spectators and an additional $20 fee (per car) for the lunch time Track Tours. We are offering FREE parking for organizations that bring 20 or more cars in a group. In addition to free admission, we will have special Corral Parking next to Vendor Row. (Groups of 10 to 20 cars will get a 50% discount on the parking fee). Corral groups of 10 or more cars signing up for the lunchtime Track Tours will take their laps as a separate group. Our Hospitality Tent is located in the center of Vendor Row. You can have an information area set up in this area and, if you would prefer a separate area with your own canopy, that can also be arranged.

The basic idea is to offer Porsche Clubs and Porsche Special Interest Groups an opportunity to come as a group, get special pricing and treatment, enjoy the event and promote your club at the same time.

If you would like to participate or to get more information, please contact us at info@CalFestival.org or call 619.992.4287

Well, I was interested last your, too, but the timing is just as bad. I won't miss The Final Four games on April 5th for this event. Is there enough going on Friday (4th) or Sunday (th) to consider a one day trip? Thanks.

I'm planning to go one of the days. Any particular day better than another?

I live in the San Fernando Valley and would be interested in caravaning to the event.

Suggest you go to ::: ZONE 8 - Porsche Club of America ::: for more information. The bulk of the races, including the enduro, will be on Sunday. Friday is practice for the different run groups. Saturday is a mixed bag of practice, preliminaries, and time trials. The website will have more info on vendors, exhibits, and other special events.

AUTOCROSS
Will we have an Autocross this year?

A: No, we have not scheduled a Zone 8 Autocross this year.

We are working on an interesting replacement.

In the same parking lot, we MAY have the opportunity for you to drive a Cayman with special instructors, provided by Porsche Cars North America.

This is not confirmed. Watch this space and the website for further updates.

This sounds like the Prosche Driving Experience at Fontana. Any news on this event?

To all South Bay (LA) club members, this is a great event. I don't know whether I will be going on Saturday or Sunday but a mini-caravan is always fun. I followed Zornet last year and we definitely needed a few more Cayman's. Great racing, fun track tour ... a great day!

I am told that PCNA will be bringing a gaggle of Caymans to the event, where a special demo AX course will be set up. There may possibly be Cayenne GTSs also. The drill is that a Porsche Driving Schoo Instructor will take you around the course and then ride with you as a passenger while you drive. The fee was described as "modest" and a contribution to charity. As a separate activity, you can take your own car around the actual race course during the lunch break in a speed-controlled group. The Track Tour fee is $20.

I was at the Porsche dealer today and he asked me if I was attending. I had to say no. Unfortunately, I am going to Hawaii tomorrow for 5 days.

I was at the Festival of Speed today. Highlight for me was the parade lap. My group was able to do three laps. To my surprise the laps weren't policed and I was hitting triple digits on the oval and 90's on the infield straights. Have to admit I got a bit scarred when the rear end stepped out exiting the higher speed infield turns. ...A LSD is in my Cayman's future.

Good racing with Porsche's from all era's. Disappointed that I didn't see any Cayman's racing (there were a handful of Boxers though).

Only about 5 Caymans in the parking area.

Oh.... Track marshals said my Borla exhaust sounded very nice.
