PCA Escape 2008 held in Zone 9

Escape 2008 will be held in Albuquerque, NM (and the surrounding areas including Santa Fe, the Jemez Mountains, and many more stunning locations).

What is Escape? "an extended PCA-National weekend, separate from Parade, which offers members another opportunity to experience PCA at a broader level. Meet new friends from different areas, and share the Porsche experience. The location of the event rotates about the country so that the event does not conflict with Parade, and competition is de-emphasized to reinforce our motto that “it’s not just the cars, it’s the people”. The clear intent is that this event would compliment but not replace nor compete with Parade."

I just signed up. Am I the first Zone 7 CC member to do so????

Looks like a terrific agenda. I lived in Albuquerque in 1972 and am looking forward to seeing the city once again as well as revisiting the neighboring country roads.

I had a 356C (the rust bucket) for about half the time I was there, but sold it to a hippie (hey, he paid cold, hard cash!....) and then bought my 914 from the local dealer.

Can hardly wait to try the Sante Fe Brewing Company's libations

and maybe swing by El Pinto Restaurant, if it's still there...it was the best Mex at the time...

Hope to see a lot of you there...

I signed up on the first day of reg. If you haven't been to ABQ or haven't experienced RRR's tours, you have missed something.

ColdCroc, El Pinto is still alive and well. Also try some wine tasteing up and down the Rio Grande Valley. Not sure about the brewing company but believe so. Also, good Mexican food in Bernalillo plus Monroe's in Albuquerque. Son likes Ragin Shrimp on Carlisle and Central. Nob Hill is also a nice place to find little off-beat places. Visit the bio-park complex also. Enjoy.

Thanks for the tips....may not have enough tme to do it all

...The wife wants to hit Falgstaff/Sedona and Taos/Santa Fe for a few days each as well... Trying to keep the whole affair to under 2weeks.

Now, I'm not trying to be a snob... forgive me in advance it this sounds that way...but NM wines???

I'm from NorCal (e.g think Missouri) so you'll have to "show me"...but, okay, let's go for it...My wife and I are white 'winers'...prefer the Chards...(I get migraines from the tannin in reds)... which wineries do you suggest?

Sorry to burst the bubble, but New Mexico is the oldest wine producing region in the United States. Dating back to the 15-16 hundreds and the Spanish. Google New Mexico Wines and you will find the history and vineyards. Gruet is in Albuquerque and has some excellent wines. Enjoy.

Casa Rondena makes some pretty good wines and is located in Albuquerque close to Rio Grande.

On a side note:
Today I saw a red Cayman at the traffic light on Louisiana and the interstate that I was hoping to tell about caymanclub.net but the driver didn't seem to notice me (I was in my truck). I think it would be nice to get a few more New Mexicans on here.

I'm trying to plan my route from the SF Bay Area to Albuquerque. Originally I was planing to leave the weekend prior, but #2 son is leaving Tuesday the 16th for a 2 1/2 year tour with the Peace Corps in Togo, Africa... Needless to say, my wife (okay, me to) want to see him off.

So......looks like a quick dash, begining Tuesday afternoon to get to ABQ by Thursday afternoon.

Anyone know how long this journey is? miles? time?

There is a possible alternative... I could leave a day or two sooner and fly my wife to some mid point or all the way to ABQ. I'd consider this if there is anyone else in Zone 7 thinking of leaving maybe Sunday or Monday that week.

Anyone heading that way?

Bob - ABQ is an easy two-day drive from the Bay Area - Google directions say is 1,060 miles and 15 hours and change... it is basically the reverse of my trips up to the Bay Area - take 101 south to 152 West in Gilroy... Over Pacheco pass to I-5 South... take I-5 South to Hwy 46 - Take 46 East toward Wasco and Hwy 99... Take Hwy 99 South through Bakersfield... on the south end of Bakersfield, you take Hwy 58 East toward Tehachapi and Barstow... Go over the Tehachapi Mtns, and stay on Hwy 58... when you get to Barstow, take the I-15 North exit toward Las Vegas... shortly after, you'll see the I-40 East Exit toward Needles - take that to Kingman AZ. I'd suggest overnight in Kingman. In the morning, get back on I-40 and continue to ABQ.

On the way to Parade, a bunch Bay Area people of people met here in LV, and we left LV at 8:30a and were in ABQ by 6p, and we had to go over the Hoover Dam and down Hwy 93 to Kingman, easily an extra 90 min. Google directions says Kingman to ABQ is 472 miles and 6 hrs. 28 min...

Bob, if you can make it into Flagstaff it is a much better place to stay. Drive Albuq to Santa Maria fairly often and always enjoy Flag.
